That didn't happen till the late 90s or early 2000s. Employers are allowed to give aptitude tests that are directly related to the job. Tech companies still give the equivalent of IQ tests. That's what those problem solving questions are that Google and others tech companies give in interviews. They are very similar to problem solving questions in IQ tests.
