🌟 Internet Famous Linus Gabriel Sebastian & Linus Media Group / Linus Tech Tips - Narcissistic corporate shill YouTuber driving his media empire into the ground. KILL COUNT: 2

Its worse than that, its actively indicative of a hostile activity. When you release a feature because the users want the feature, you just release it and off it goes. When you feel the need to A/B test it, then your saying "They don't want/need it, I'm looking for the version that gives me [company] the best outcome". Whether that's the least user annoyance or rejection, the most artificial engagement, or whatever other behavior your actually seeking, A/B Testing is about the response, not the change. And that should tell you all you need to know about the priorities.
A/B tests are good and incredibly valuable. People (like Linus or Jake) just don't know how to use them. And, more broadly, whether the test is good or not depends on the metric you are measuring.

You can easily construct a test for actually needed and desired features, instead of engagement bait. YouTube's thumbnail A/B tests measure Watch Time, for example. But this is obviously the wrong metric to look at if you're optimizing purely for high CTR and clickbait.

And this also means that you can't directly go off of A/B tests that measure Watch Time if you are trying to increase your reach and viewership beyond your core demographic, since (when the test is run early on in the video's life cycle) the thumbnail that "wins" in the A/B test will be the one your subscribers prefer, but their preferences won't necessarily reflect what's actually clickable. Seeing how other YouTubers use the tests, made me realize how utterly incompetent 99% of them are.

This is also literally what the "Creator Liaison" at YouTube said when they launched A/B testing back in 2023:

This actually wasn't a bad idea for a video, and you can see they desperately want this guy to be a non-tranny 2018 Anfernee, but they should have included a full Lack knockoff shelf. You can buy half to a quarter sheet at Home Depot, even have them cut it for five bucks, or you can just get another 2v4 and chop it up and glue/stack for a very sturdy top. They never show full Chad builder, they stop at that horrible halfway mark which just seems appropriate for gay canadians living in their bughive depressing apartments/duplexes.

I roll my eyes at placing your value at 30/hour, this is the kind of shit you just do on the weekend for fun because it's very zen.

Yeah, this is something you do for fun, not to save money. If you're so desperate for cash that you need to buy an IKEA table to serve as a rack then your priorities are fucked.

They also have a shit ton of 3d printers and could have easily done something cheap there either to make the lack mounting easier or the whole thing itself

I actually somewhat enjoyed watching this. It was neat to see all the different formats for home viewing, but there was a lot less reliance on a script and more focus on dialogue between Linus and the cohost (I have no idea what his name is). Minimal ads helped, though I want to point out that the basic purple crewneck runs $60 which is insane. We usually want to shit on Linus and LTT, but if all of their videos were like this with even less script-reading, I think it would be a big improvement.

Plus First Blood is a goated movie.

I found this while looking for stuff related to the new steam machine launch.

At 5:58 he casually drops he made custom faceplates with the Makera Carvera chinkshit Desktop CNC Router.
Anyone else notice how recently, seemingly every maker/tech related youtube nigger and their grandmother has been sent one of these desktop routers for free?

I am not saying that a home CNC router is pointless, as making functional metal and even wood components is great for projects and a step above 3D Printing in some applications. To me it seems that the majority of the recipients and would-be purchasers of these products are the kind of people that just download shit from makerworld, print articulating dragons and never model anything themselves.

It started a month or two ago and something just feels scummy with the whole scheme.

The 'makerspace' community is developing alongside the same trend lines as the home networking/rack autists, there's a growing segment that threatens to become a majority, that doesn't actually use or need any of the capacity of their equipment, and just stacks increasingly expensive capabilities to flex their workshop to others. And that's the exact kind of audience that LTT pretends to have, the people with more money than tech sense who believe a hobby is a product.

Being able to mill aluminum parts for use in otherwise 3d printed assemblies is conceptually great, but it requires actual engineering know-how to apply that well. But the reality is that if you've got that engineering know-how, you've also got the know-how to work around needing a mill in 90% of scenarios. In my experience of 3d prop design, the idea of using metal for a rigid backbone of a 3d printed shell is awesome - but slotted aluminum t-stock works fine for the heavy duty use cases, and the rest is easily managed, if tedious, by raw rod stock. Most of the other metal related use cases can similarly be solved in CAD without the mill to use off the shelf parts.

And if you're not making props, toys, and gimmicks, and might actually have legitimate need of custom metal parts? Well then you're probably not a hobby guy, your probably an actual small business at this point and should bite the bullet, spend the ten grand or so and get a real CNC rig. People don't realize how much design thought goes into industrial equipment where uptime/downtime/maintenance is a major consideration, until they're trying to use a consumer tool 'seriously' and keep slamming into drift and other issues that aren't as big a deal when your making widgets for the cat once a month.

I was gonna post the Rambo video just to point out its incredibly weak viewnumbers for the first 24 hours, it was at 80k until just recently when it shot up to 177k. At that rate it might not get to 500k in 3 days. And he can spin it as holidays in the only place that matters but following his gay ass mocap athlete video he hasn't hit over a million in a week, and the only thing to get traction was the Gabe Cube and Steam VR video:

I don't know about the specific CNC router you are referring, but I think a lot of it probably just comes down to a lot of these types of tools are becoming way more affordable and accessible to consumers, so tons of people who don't even need them are just buying them anyway for the odd 1-2 projects they do. Even 3D printers like 5-10 years ago were considered extremely niche, basically a hobby/tinker project you'd have to fully learn about, fully assemble yourself, fully calibrate yourself, and even then you would likely still get pretty trash prints. Where as now you have full off the shelf solutions that can print in all different sorts of materials, can print absolutely huge parts, require 0 setup or calibration, cost 1/10th of what they did 5 years ago, and you basically just transfer your 3d model and click start print and walk away.

You'd really expect him to be up around this period too - lots of tech tourists should be wandering through for the coming black friday and cyber monday shit.

It looks like he has piss coloring on the braces themselves. The teeth underneath are teeth colored from what it looks like.

Those types of braces have elastic bands called "Ligatures" that help to keep the archwire in place, they are usually changed every time the braces are adjusted at 6-8 week intervals. The bands come in a range of different colors, I had the same type of braces as a kid/early teenager and the orthodontist let me pick the color of the bands because my parents paid privately for my treatment, poorfags who had the government pay for their treatment didn't get the option.

You could also replace them yourself and sometimes had to, because they could and would break, so the orthodontist would give you a supply rather than having to go back to them every time it happened in those 6-8 week intervals. this was in the 90s/early 00s so thinks may have changed since then.

They make transparent ones. Why his are yellow like that is beyond me.
I got transparent ones and they did slightly yellow over time. Not anywhere near as bad as his have, though. Looks to me like he’s eaten curry and then not brushed his teeth for a couple days to let it really settle in.

I'm also pretty sure the ortho gives extra bands and shows patients / patients parents how to change them out and replace them when shit happens.

They swapped mine during checkups. If one broke I could just give them a call and swing by to get it replaced whenever since it’s literally a five second thing to do.

They’re on there pretty right, you use pliers and a fair bit of force, I don’t think they’d trust just anybody to do it at home in a mirror. I wouldn’t want to do it myself.

Oh, you're right, I'm thinking of the other bands that go from the top braces to the bottom ones.
