Of course, it all depends on what your definition of "practice" is. See, he wasn't *doing* law, he was just practicing.

Yes, as would merely being on illegal drugs in the first place. It only ends up being an ethics violation when clients are harmed, though, unless you also get arrested/convicted, but even then, unless you're dealing or exchanging drugs for legal services, it's usually treated as a medical issue and they may temporarily suspend you for a period of time and require you to get rehab or even practice under the supervision of another lawyer for a time.

Unsurprisingly, when they do this, it's often through a rehab program specifically for lawyers and I've seen things where the supervising lawyer was someone like the sinning lawyer's AA sponsor. It's generally set up so if the lawyer goes back to practice and fucks up again, someone can supervise the transition of clients to someone ready to take them, so it isn't a complete disaster like whatever probably happened that got them suspended.

While Kurt shouldn't egg Nick on further as that is what Nick wants, I think the proper response should be a short video of him drinking a tall glass of a nice, cold beer. Celebrate with a legal substance that Nick is barred from enjoying for the next 5 years.

I disagree, it can be kind of powered through without medication, depending on severity. There are also a lot of factors with it that can make a difference. Just to add to this:

What happened is that Nick wrote an amicus curiae brief for Vic's case. Nick screwed that up, and it wasn't accepted by the court (long story, and not terribly important to the point here).

Kurt reviewed both the official pleadings from Ty, and Nick's amicus curiae brief, and concluded that Ty's work was bad, and Nick's was better.

Their friendship happened because, in the course of shitting on Ty's pleadings, Kurt inadvertantly stroked Nick's ego. Nick probably did not appreciate the fact that Ty's pleadings were just so awful, Kurt was just grading the two works in a relative sense, and that didn't mean Kurt was gonna be a yes man for Nick.

Looking back, if Kurt had just shit on Ty's pleadings, I think we'd now be on an alternate timeline where there is no "cooking with Kurt." Nick would have likely just told Kurt to sod off, like he did every other lawyer critical of Vic's case.
