The truth is, democracy is a system that can only exist in High Trust societies, is a relic of the past where both disenting parties still worked together towards a common goal aka: the best interests for the country and its citizens, as they all shared a single homogeneous origin with a culture that emphazises discourse and debate over ripping eachother appart unless its the last option. But like every system is has a flaw and that flaw is that it just takes 1 person to realize that all he needs to do to ensure his uninterrupted ruling is to artificially control the will of the people by either buying them out or just outright replacing them with ones willing to have eternal loyalty to the party.
