The thing with Mamdani was a bit funny, since a big plan by the GOP was to use Mamdani against the Democrats for the midterms. Only for Trump to start lavishing praise upon Mamdani and how reasonable he is.

Feel like Trump reacted this way since he often turns on the charm when dealing with these figures he opposes, at least when speaking to them personally.

Like with Harris in 2024, Harris called Trump after someone showed up at Trump's golf course as part of an assassination plot, and Trump went into full charmer mode.

But then the very next day he may go right back to spewing venom as per usual, since he's very used to switching modes like that. Trying to charm those he's speaking with in person.

Which is why it's more notable when he does sperg out, like the random outburst telling a reporter "quiet piggy" or when he'd get testy with other world leaders who were actively trying to get along with him (versus how docile he'd get with people like Xi). Since in those cases you can see how he responds when he views himself in a serious conflict where both sides have leverage, versus just trying to posture a bit for the public stage.

There are stories of him having outbursts in private, even losing his voice a bit the other day reportedly (from him) due to yelling at people within the White House. But he puts on a very different face when he knows the public is watching or would be hearing about it.

Notable was an absence of Vance. Yesterday Vance joked with Matt Boyle at a Breitbart event that “I might have a stomach bug for that.”. Vance seems to do really poorly at dealing with people so I wonder if he was asked to stay out to avoid sperging out at Mamdani the way he has with other figures.
