i hope i wont have to go through the various baseload, peak load, instant demand etc explanations but in a nutshell, a source that is not dispatchable is useless and nobody would touch it if not forced.
imagine if someone invented an engine that runs using a quarter of the fuel a conventional engine uses, but it delivers power completely randomly, including when the car is parked.
would you consider building a car that, in order to use that engine, has a pletora of accumulators and devices that store energy that you can use when you need it, but you never have guarantee that the accumulators are full so your range is always a question mark? not to mention that the engine might decide to go full power when you are at a crossing and a lorry is arriving.
only someone insane would think about doing that.
non dispatchable, intermittent sources are madness, and often a scam. the amount of money that has been stolen with fraudulent schemes around "renewables" is enormous.
im not a luddite or someone that is opposed to "renewables" because of religion. im someone who has lived at a time when insanity was considered a disease and madmen were kept in lunatic asylums, not running the energy policies of entire nations.
now my question is, do you make your own shoes? your own tires? your furnitures, food? no he? and why? because it would cost enormously more than stuff produced industrially by professionals.
so how the hell people bought into this absurd idea that making your own energy is a good idea and economically viable?
do you think grid operators will accept to run grids that people use only when there is no sun or wind, some sort of giant UPS? lol.
