North America was just as fucked as Africa, overrun with Stone Age cannibals who didn't have writing, the wheel, or metallurgy. We made them leave, now it's amazing here. Should have done the same thing with the niggers in Africa, but unfortunately, the colonists decided to use them as labor instead of move them to reservations.
So I kinda take umbridge with this as a history nigger, I wrote a college level paper on this topic, The African Slave Trade, and im not going to sit here and tell you "Ohh it was so wrong" it is what it is.
What I will tell you is the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade started in the early 1500s, most give 1526 as the start date, the Industrial revolution dosent happen until, charitably, 1720, so thats just shy of 200 years of development and existence before the time of extreme gap in technology
So its very hard to find good maps on the time period to show what im trying to show but this does a good job of it
So this first map shows exactly what it says, Portuguese "land holdings" in the 16th century. Here is what I want you to notice, in africa, they hug the coast HARD, restricted to a very select handful of ports and often islands. While in the new world, while its no far inland, you can see how much "more" land they have a claim on. Why is this?
Its because as far back as the 11th century there were large, powerful, and stable EMPIRES within sub-Saharan Africa
These were not backwards society's, they traded on equal terms with their European counterparts and could not be "taken by force" at any time before the industrial revolution without a combined European effort witch would never happen.
So instead of just taking their shit, we realize in Africa they practice "ritual combat" where the tribe who mogs the other tribe (oversimplifying) they became "ritual slaves" it was like a humiliation but they dident actually have to work to death, but we thought, thats a pretty bussin business idea, and went to all these kings and chieftains and said, "hey you have a ton of slaves, let me buy them from you and give you cool European stuff like guns and clocks"
So this ancient practice they had used to bloodlessly solve conflicts now becomes the new way to "amass wealth" the tribe that conquers to most people will be able to trade for the most guns and new cool shit. So over the 200 years, these once powerful and thriving nation states have their entire economy built on war and slavery. Then 100 years after that most western nations ban slavery and now all these nations are stuck like
"wait thats the family business"
So thats the nuance of why modern africa is SO fucked, its not that the africas are devoid of blame in this, but when you look at it in its entirety it makes alot more sense. It could has just as easily and almost did, happen to the Irish. The Africans just came pre enslaved so it was easier.
