Funko Pop maker admits it might not survive another year as sales crash

Article on dexerto / archive

Funko has warned investors that it may not survive another year after reporting a sharp decline in sales and issuing a formal notice about its financial stability.

The collectibles giant behind the Pop Vinyl brand posted net sales of $250.9 million for the third quarter of 2025, down 14% from the same period last year, and recorded a net loss of roughly $1 million, according to its latest financial filing. The company cited falling demand, higher tariffs, and tighter retailer inventories as major challenges in what it described as a “difficult retail environment.“

Funko’s troubles follow years of explosive growth fueled by its vinyl collectibles, which once dominated shelves at Walmart, Target, and comic book stores. But as overproduction flooded the market and consumer interest waned, the company’s once-steady profits began to collapse. Reports from industry tracker ICv2 show that Funko’s U.S. sales plunged 20% year-over-year, accounting for most of its overall revenue drop.

“Substantial doubt” over Funko’s future

In its latest SEC filing, Funko said there is “substantial doubt about our ability to continue as a going concern for the next 12 months,” acknowledging that without new funding or an acquisition, it could breach loan covenants and default on debt obligations. The company has roughly $250 million in total debt and has already amended its credit agreement twice in 2025 to secure covenant relief.

Funko says it will focus on smaller product lines such as Bitty Pops, blind-box collectibles, and its Pop Yourself kiosks while “exploring strategic alternatives,” including a potential sale. Once a billion-dollar powerhouse of pop-culture merchandise, the company now faces its most uncertain year yet.

Reminds me of that post by someone here on how "transgenders" can have an autistic "face blindness", so they think hairstyles and accessories are really all that's needed to pose as a different sex or "gender", which can be clearly shown with that mother-raping lolcow. Maybe there is a connection between that and with the SJWs liking Funko Pops?

I worked at McDonald's during the Beanie Baby craze and had a miserable time, but I would have loved those toys as a child since I collected teddy bears.

Funko Pops are just plastic junk that barely resemble the character they're supposed to portray. Instead of dumping them in landfills, it would be nice to repurpose them into artificial reefs like we do with other kinds of garbage but they're probably too toxic for that purpose.
I mean beanie babies I can understand because they're cute little stuffed dolls that you can buy for someone and have them put on their dashboard. I used to have a beanie baby on my dashboard that somebody bought for me at a goodwill.
A fucko pop serves no actual purpose. You can't put it on anything, you can't pose them to make them funny, they're just lame fucking boxy faced pieces of plastic. Clutter personified. If someone bought me a fucko pop, I would either do anything I could to return it or I would wait a reasonable amount of time and throw it in the garbage.

Just think in a few hundred years from now, there will be archaeologists digging through former landfills finding a shit ton of these ugly things.

Maybe they'll think we worshipped them as idols. We buried them to appease the earthquake god that unleashed is wrath on California.

That is all 2010s consoomer shitlib slop culture ever was. A collection of haircuts and accessories that could be plastered onto personality-free statues - be they funko pops or actual people.
If that pendulum ever swings out of loony left (and maybe it is), the 2010s and the early 2020s could be looked back on as "the loony bin years" - a rather dystopian time of dangerhairs, soyboys, "transgenders", "face masks", superhero movies, "smartphones", "social media", insane censorship, endless "culture wars", and of course the Funko Pops.

The loony left is on their way out, and having fucko pops be one of their legacies is a fucking hilarious idea to me.
Irreversible hormonal therapy and useless boxy faced plastic toys are their death throes. Fitting because the only thing that has a squarer jaw and contains more artificial chemicals than a fucko pop is a tranny.

My favorite thing to come from Funko Pops is this video:

The Beanie Baby crzae was an interesting time, just about everyone in my family fell for it. I don't even know what happened to most of the ones my relatives collected, probably thrown away years ago.

An absolute indictment of what 30 years of participation trophies for just remembering to breathe can do to a generation..... we were promised all that caring about feelings would embolden people to reach new heights, and all it did was encourage them to keep dropping their standards and saying infantile forever because someone would always come to the rescue with toys and chicken nuggets every time they failed...... and this is the end result.

People dying not with businesses or houses to their names, but huge collections of Chinese plastic blocks with no functional use. But look how many different colors they got!

What’s the point of a Funko Pop? Just to stare at it? Can you play with them like action figures or dolls? It just stares at you.
I don't think people were paying top dollar to speculate on them, so they were not like the speculation of Beanie Babies or Dutch Tulips.

Funko Pops had a cute asthethetic that would play well towards girls. And if you really loved Star Wars, you could get Star Wars Funkops, just like any other collectable figure.

And since the style of Funkpops were all the same, you could place your Star Wars Funkopops next to your Raiders of the Last Arc Funko Pops and they would all be in the same contiguous style.

People enjoyed them. Toy stores and comic shops made money off of them. To the best of my knowledge, nobody lost money speculating on them. No harm. No foul. People are either growing out of them, or found them to be a luxury they don't want to spend on anymore in the current economy.

Getting mad at Funko pops is like getting mad at those metallic magnetic enamel "disc plate" squares people could buy of pulp culture movies and hang on their wall. Harmless cheap thrills for those who enjoyed them.

Nature is healing. Finally. Soon the labubus will be out too, until something gayer and goysloppy will take that place.

@Asian tech support I was not suggesting that men could Use Funko Pops to attract women any more than a man could wear a cute dress to attract women. I think this falls into the "ick" factor. Women will buy them for themselves, or even receive them as gifts if they already enjoy them. But if they see a man obsessing over them, he might as well be wearing a dress.

This will be our era's Venus of Willendorf and anthropologists the world over will debate on why we were obsessed with huge noggins and soulless eyes.

Beanie babies died sooner than they would have due to people realizing the manufacturer was the one publishing pricing guides for "rarer" versions. I don't think Funko pop has gotten that retarded yet, but even 2000-5000 each when they release thousands of new ones a year is fucking absurd.
But here’s a solid timeline of how Funko Pop! Vinyl line exploded:

  • 2010–2014: The Pop line launched. It released approximately 500 to 800 pop figures total across those first five years.
  • 2015–2019: Funko ramped up dramatically, by 2019 they had produced over 10,000 unique Pops.
  • 2020–2024: With licensing deals expanding and demand surging, Funko added an estimated 1,500 to 2,000 new Pops every year.
  • 2025: The current estimate places the total number of unique Funko Pop figures at over 25,000.

That's a lot of garbage released every year with "most" of them only being 2000-5000 at a time, but others in the tens of thousands or more.

Reminder that these plastic shits were one of the main killers of Toys R Us and are one of the many reasons Gamestop is dying.

Near the end, our local Toys R Us had THREE ENTIRE AISLES dedicated to the damn things.

I asked one of the workers if those things actually sell and he started laughing and said "Dude, if these things actually sold, we wouldn't have 3 aisles of them. And this isn't even all of 'em. We have like 4 more pallets in the back that we don't have room for."

He said it was the same with Star Wars, Marvel, and Lego: They were getting sent a ton of inventory every month, hardly any of it was selling, and it just piled up.

Although he admitted that before Lego kept increasing their prices and opened a Lego Store nearby that directly competed with them, the Lego stuff used to actually sell.

Gamestop is suffering that fate now. They have more plastic "Nerd Culture" trash than actual video game stuff. Virtually none of it is profitable, it takes up a ton of space, and they're contractually forced to keep buying it.
