Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

If you're advertising your machine can be used horizontally or vertically, expect some people to change it while running. If you can protect against that failure with $0.10 worth of rubber pads, you should.
I'm not saying you're wrong; I'm saying that MS cut some corners on the Xbox 360 to beat the PlayStation 3's launch. As an aside, I've never seen anybody change the orientation of an optical media device while it was running.

I kinda agree with this but mostly for the lols

Give me top hats, but combo memorization and having core game mechanics suddenly not work can fuck right off.

When a boss is "perfectly parry these 5 hit combos and maybe we'll let you do one or two hits of chip damage, also your attacks and special moves don't work" then I'm tempted to just throw my hands up and quit.

Likewise "attacks are either high or low so dodge high or low". What about this mid attack? Take a wild guess and try to figure out if you're getting the direction wrong, getting the timing wrong, or there's no avoiding it at all.

But combos and special moves are a problem. It's just memorization. What's more, executing them can be inconsistent. Again, when it doesn't work, I don't know if I'm a ham fisted retard who can't time button presses, a forgetful retard that got them wrong, or it just doesn't work on this particular enemy.

Fast travel should have never been included in The Elder Scrolls after Daggerfall. Skyrim and Oblivion both have pretty scenery, and nice views, which you don't really see often when you're fast travelling every time you need to go somewhere.
You could easily expand the horse cart traveling in Skyrim to be like Silt Striders, and the Mages Guild in Oblivion could give offer teleportation services like in Morrowind.

I cannot think of any other CD/DVD/Blu-Ray player that would damage discs from movement. MS cheaped out on the disc drives by not adding rubber cushions near the lens. The drives did not securely align the disc in motion. And earlier Xbox 360 models were known to be MORE sensitive to any vibration, which would cause the circular scratches.

I think the early PS1's could scratch discs on the laser is moved.
I agree with what you're saying, but I side with Microsoft on not including rubber cushions because who would be so retarded as to move a console while a disk is spinning? A lot, as it turns out, hence the introduction of cushions. Can't blame MS for a disc being scratched if you're throwing your console around mid game or playing it while it's sat on a washing machine.

I don't understand why people care so much about fast travel when they, themselves, could just not use it if they don't like it.

Sometimes, you really don't feel like spending two minutes running back to town from a dungeon when you've killed and seen everything you could along the way. Now if some people want to do that, that's cool, I get it. But I don't get why some people are so god damn against it when they're perfectly fine with horse cart fast travel and teleportation. I think it should *all* be there tbqh

fagginess and niggatry, fagginess from being offended at the mechanic that takes away from the perceived experience as to what a game should convey and niggatry because socioeconomic factors will force said faggot to also use the mechanic.

and there are a lot of these kinds of faggotniggers out there to bitch about mechanics they would profess to not use but still scream to the four corners of the world that it's detrimental to the game to let it exist.

Matchmaking outside of competitive ladders is a dogshit concept that's bad for humanity. It's completely fucked up the dynamic of gaming and turned gamers into fun-hating antisocial bug people. I realized that out of the hundreds of friends on my accounts, not a single one of them was made playing a matchmaking game. Even in unranked modes everyone's either silent or raging because you're not playing the "meta" or following their obsessed autistic callouts. It's awful. They now do garbage like intentionally putting shitters 1000 MMR under you on your team to enforce a 50% win rate, then holding you hostage for an hour because you're not allowed to quit an obviously stacked shitfest. I don't give a fuck about competition in gaming, I've never played ranked anything, and I hate that competifag culture has ruined basically all FPS games' unranked modes and turned the experience into an angry isolation chamber.

Give me my fucking servers and communities back. I miss the days of COD4 and TF2 where I could pop onto my favorite servers, chat and make friends with the locals, enjoy going up against the god gamers, enjoy pooping on noobs, and fuck around doing fun things without some bullshit scold system punishing me for not being a hyper competitive rat pulling skinner box levers. We had mods and cool wacky shit far beyond what the developers released. Not anymore! Matchmaking sucks even in PVE games, where it reduces everyone to basically being a bot. Matchmaking is all scientifically derived now to fuck with your emotions and addict you and I hate it.

Skyrim is grey and white and ugly it was never pretty to look at.

When new vegas included hardcore mode which added food drink sleep and a bunch of gameplay modifiers, I really thought we'd see similar modes in future bethesda titles but nope they didn't follow Obsidian's example. Itd be nice if they made optional no fast travel modes but then theyd have to include more diagetic fast travel options. Skyrim technically has hardcore mode now but the issue is there's no mark and teleport, there's no consistent fast travel for some reason you can take a carraige ride to and from most major cities but can only ride into winterhold, there's no return trip and thats all because the game isnt designed with hardcore in mind.

Not that any of this matters skyrim and oblivion have awful combat compared to Morrowind

lol you had me there for a minute
Well its just that when you realize all the systems feed into the most miserable gameplay imagineable it really kills an motivation to play those 2 games over just going back to morrowind.

Skyrim's combat is just mashing left click and shield bash to keep things permanent stun locked as you watch their hp slowly drain, using spells that do no damage or insta killing things with stealth. On top of that unlike Morrowind or New Vegas, Skyrim's higher difficulties were not designed to be played. Skyrim has cutscene finishing moves that allow the enemy to instantly kill you by queuing up an attack in range of you with enough damage to kill. But on legendary difficulty most things can do this even when you're at full hp. I think there's a protection from getting 1 shot by it like you have to be 90% of you total hp or less but that still results in 1 hit to death insta deaths that you can't really avoid if you're using melee.

morrowinds combat is 1000 times better than those fucking slogfests you casual
Morrowinds combat is shit. This is independent of Oblivion or Skyrim whos combat is also shit.

And I'd rather be a casual who doesn't repel women than either an underage loser trying to impress the fedorabeards at his gaming table or said fedorabeard, as those are the only people who could reasonably believe that Morrowind doesn't have shit combat.

Morrowind's combat is pretty good for an action rpg and its the best melee system Bethesda have done. All their games since have just been flailing simulators.

Morrowind is about preparing and aligning a few strong hits instead of just spamming attack. This is because the power attack actually does appreciable damage and if you spam your stamina goes down resulting in missed attacks.

Why are you bringing up New Vegas?
Because while not a Bethesda game, it's still something they put out on their engine and something they should've monitored feedback from. Obviously if we're putting out a seqeul to an, at the time, wildly popular game we should take notes on how it's changes were received and apply some of that to fallout 4 or skyrim (of course they didn't) there's a lot of lessons to be learned about new vegas even if bethesda are incapable of good writing making your highest difficulty something that's actually fun to play or making skill checks transparent and include all skills not just speech.

Or how about fixing 3's baffling decision to make "end game weapons" a skill that's impractical to choose as a specilization by just integrating it into the other weapons. I often see people claim that new vegas merged small guns and big guns but the reality is that small guns became guns and big guns got distributed to guns, energy and explosives.

But again, none of this matters fallout 4 has a very poorly designed world, overfocuses on playing minecraft with your town adding more tedium to the return trip and completely stripped skills from the game to remove any of that pesky planning. I guess my main point is that their games have gotten worse in many ways even when shown better ways to do things and its not just the writing.

level up your hp, took me 10 minutes of playing as a mage to figure out i should spend some levels and money on health increasing sutff until i could resto loop or else the get fucked animation played with nordic steel bandit leaders and dragons played.

that's a elaborate way to move the goalpost from one game to another just to try and defend one game's shitty combat in comparison to their sequels which enshittified the combat in other ways.

You quoted the wrong post, you meant to click the one above. But let me be clear, Morrowind does not have shitty combat. It's a very satisfying system that blends rpg mechanics with real time reactions. The way you have to manage stamina and time your attacks is good. By focusing on power attacks you have to plan when to ready your attack because you can't block while taking stance. So you have to wait for the enemy to tire out or get space to give yourself time to charge.

it's shitty combat is literally the main point people complain about it, just because you like eating shit with a fork doesn't make eating shit any less appealing to people that don't like eating shit.
oblivion is way more simplified and gets shit because of the shitty scaling and difficulty making your damage multipliers arse.
skyrim is way more simplified and is shittier because of the silly stat checks that gets you a instakilled animation.

but people prefer skyrim because they can mod it better than both of the previous games even if it's niggercattle simplified level, that's why skyblivion is hyped, so you can play the older games content without having to endure the shittiness of the older games, also modern support o algo.
