Unironically the gaming industry would be better off if Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo as companies just died altogether.

It's unique but one of the metas for leveling your skills being to fucking hit yourself while a party member spams heals is indeed retarded.I think Final Fantasy II is good. I like the leveling system and I think putting two shields on guy so he blocks everything is fucking awesome.
JC3 was the same kind of game as Saints Row 4. A completely stupid power fantasy that knew what it was and leaned into it in all the best ways possible. A magic wingsuit slash jetpack that shoots infinite bullets? Sure, why not. A nuke launcher? Yeah, of course! How about a gun that summons lightning from the sky like a Dungeons and Dragons wizard? Hell, let's just make the entire game about blowing shit up. The story is there to give you a justification to blow shit up.
The PSP version fixes (using the term loosely) this. Your HP levels up after a set number of battles. Though I'm pretty sure you can still smack each other for HP gains. It's unique but one of the metas for leveling your skills being to fucking hit yourself while a party member spams heals is indeed retarded.

In the original your HP did not level up after a set number of battles. There were two ways of getting around this. One was beating the shit out of each other and not healing. If you left a battle with full health the game would recognize this and not allow your HP to level up. Another strategy was to put dual shields on everyone and for 15-30 minutes you just go into random battles spamming defend to increase your evasion. You can get to the final boss with 300-400 hp and dodge mostly everything. I also must point out you can damn near use the warp spell on everything. Even the Emperor.I remember getting high HP pretty fast. But I tend to dick around in games a lot before advancing the story. The PSP version is also the only one I've played so I can't compare it anything. Was it bad in the original?

You gain HP enough from just inevitably taking damage in fights in the original that I think needing to smack yourself to grind it is pretty much a meme. Most other stats also go up at a reasonable rate, even Agility so long you either give everyone a shield or have them fighting totally naked for most of the game. The real issue in II is that spell levels raise at a snail's pace and it's a pain in the ass to increase max MP. Offensive magic is mostly shit overall because of that and you're better off mindlessly mashing through everything, but you still might want to use healing spells because it's more convenient than items (which you only carry an annoyingly small number of in the original due to your inventory getting slowly dominated by key items you can't rid of as you progress) and it gets hard to do that effectively in the later parts of the game without really tedious spell grinding. In the original your HP did not level up after a set number of battles. Ehh, I remember those days being pretty annoying in their own wayI miss the days when people bitched about the Mass Effect 3 ending being bad, or the part where some got mad that the Halo Reach game had a different story than the novel. That was back then when we actually had a gaming industry that tried to innovate, instead of a skinner box that played familiar tunes to tickle nostalgia boners now and then.
I don't know if this actually counts as "hate-playing", but back in my wasted youth when I still had way too much time on my hands, I would very deliberately seek out obscure games I fully expected to be some degree of shit. I was especially into weird eurojank shooters like Dark Apes, Hellforces or Operation Matriarchy. The appeal for me wasn't to play something "ironically" but to get a glimpse of what industry outsiders would produce on shoestring budgets and often extremely limited talent. While those games were admittedly barely ever fun to actually play, the overall experience was oftentimes extremely entertaining nonetheless. Hell, I still remember laughing my ass off at the shockingly retarded cutscenes in one of the Stalin Subway games.Hate-playing sounds like a made up concept, much like hate-fucking.
While I enjoy those two games, I hope we get back to something more traditional. Or Nintendo will just say fuck it and remake OoT, MM, and TP.BOTW gets really boring after a few hours (I hope they move away from his formulae soon but I doubt they will). It's just feels lifeless and empty to me.
The one thing Insomniac games do well is making you believe the world is huge and realistic. Everything else is kinda where the wheels fall off the bus.One game I think actually benefits from the advancements of technology we have today is Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Not because of its graphical fidelity or even its vast draw distance, but from its pedestrian density. You're flying around a densely populated NYC, you need to BELIEVE you're there as Spider-Man, whizzing to and from.
My controversial opinion is that the Switch's first party line up fucking sucked, like it's bizarre situation where you see it sold a bazillion consoles but then look at the library and wonder WHY?
You had practically the same Mario Party, Mario Kart, Smash Bros etc. that you had on the Wii U and Wii even.
Only Insomniac series I’ve played was Ratchet & Clank, do you have any examples of that? The one thing Insomniac games do well is making you believe the world is huge and realistic. Everything else is kinda where the wheels fall off the bus.
That, along with parents of kids who are under twelve. This question answers itself if you live with children under age twelve.
What are its clones cause ive always thought it was sub par but unique and the main draw was the story (especially in black because of how morbid those cutscenes were)Twisted Metal isn't that great, it's clones did things much better.
