Random Saturday thought: the pop culture usurpation of all things related to science by the political left is one of those things that gnaws at me. I was rewatching some of The Thing this morning, and I forgot how much I miss older variations on scientists in movies. They’re all aggressively politically correct and nerdy wimps now. You used to get scientists who were square jawed military men like Peter Graves or Leslie Nielsen (serious mode) would play. Look at the jet-flying leading man scientist in This Island Earth. Or you’d get rugged frontier sawbones doctors like McCoy in Star Trek or Brimley in The Thing. Hard drinking fucks with advanced degrees. Now it’s just fat dumpy chicks screeching, “Let’s science the SHIT out of this!”

How people can, after Trump being voted out and they were all calm for four whole years, not realize that maybe the media had them more gassed up about Trump than Trump actually has astounds me.

I remember being devastated that Trump won, and to my relief, nothing bad happened. I expected my friends and family to respond similarly. I cannot see for the life of me what they liked about the Biden years!

Working in science education, particularly secondary ed, I can't even begin to tell you how bad it's getting. It all started with the fighting over curriculum where Christians wanted to push creationism. Being on the correct side of that argument made the left think they own science. Science is apolitical, which I think they have long since realized, and so now just like the creationists, they are taking the parts they like, such as sex-changing fish, and dismantling the structures that make them uncomfortable. Look for "other ways of knowing", I'm seeing a lot of that talk used in the curriculum development realm.
