There are reports that the suspect was fleeing from a robbery gone wrong so there might not have been any motive at all.

Of course this is all just coming in and it might be wrong.

Edit: Looks like the suspect is from the Bronx and his name is "Richard" something. He apparently has a history of DUI's and there's indications that he was intoxicated today as well.
