I think that while people are right to be concerned about him not receiving just consequences there is more happening that most give credit to, this "collargate" issue, even if only briefly, broke into the public consciousness, millions of people now have only heard of Hasan in this context, if he is ever brought up to them again their immediate thought and likely response will be "Ohh yea the collar guy"
By taking that and combining it with the fact you cant meaningfully "join" his community unless you sit passively waiting for 3 months (their attention spans cant handle that) Hasan has artifically isolated himself from any new viewers and most importantly chatters.
