I was impressed that there's some genuinely hilarious shit where they trust the character context and facial animations to carry it; like the funniest moment in the game I think is when you arrive at the himalayas before the nazis (because of magic) and the number two dude is just wordlessly fucking gobsmacked that this keeps happening.
I went in blind and apart from the ending being literally just Raiders again I thought it was a pretty solid Indiana Jones movie. As a game it's like a bargain bin Tomb Raider and I'm surprised anyone cares enough to be mad about it.
Bought it on sale yesterday because I'm not going to have much time for video games in the foreseeable future. I haven't gotten far, but I like it. Whoever is doing the voice acting does a pretty banger Ford impression, and I guess it's a step forward that it's not nazis again this time.
I beat it last night and I thought it was excellent. Most fun I've had with a AAA game since Cyberpunk, but that's not saying much. I even liked it so much that I bought the DLC at full price.
I was especially impressed by how right they got the German. With a few minor exceptions it was largely accurate. The VA for Voss did an especially good job. Gantz not so much, but it was still alright.
I'm a bit split on Voss. I do like the petty rivalry between him and Indy, but there's quite a few scenes where he came across as overly cartoonish. Then again though, Indiana Jones villains are usually cartoon characters (except Mads Mikkelsen, funnily enough).
Troy Baker did a stellar Harrison Ford impression, it was like Ford had come back to life. The guy who did the motion capture also did a great job.
The romance was fine. I was a bit disappointed that it didn't go anywhere since Indy canonically ends up with Marion, but it would have been cool if they'd tied it in with Young Indiana Jones, where old Indy has a daughter. Then again, I'm probably the only one who cares about Young Indiana Jones.
I was a bit surprised about how much mileage I got out the game. According to Steam, I spent 52 hours in-game. If we subtract time where I forgot to shut off the game and let my computer running, I'd say it took me about 45 hours, DLC included. Given that I got it on sale for about 35€, I definitely got my moneys worth.
The story was great, too, but I dig stories about pre-historic civilization, and, in the current year +10, I didn’t expect the story to tie into Christianity so heavily. I wasn't expecting Noah's Ark at the end.
What I didn't like was the SS Kummetz. What happened there is a harrowing concept and it's a very creepy scene, but it leaned too far into the supernatural too quickly. I was also a tad disappointed how they handled Laura: I was hoping that they would leave it open to interpretation whether she joined Voss willingly or not. Then again, I did not expect thay kind of nuance from an Indiana Jones story.
I was a little disapointed that, in Siam, you're fighting fascists again. I was expecting the Japanese.
So yeah, I'm running out of things to ramble about. Good game, I may have loved it, which I did not really expect.
I bought this a while back and gave up in the Vatican because it's so fucking boring. Nothing interesting or fun happens, and it goes on and on and on. Indy is disguised as a Catholic Priest and it would literally be an improvement in the game if he started molesting altar boys. I'm trying to grind through this turd once more but after several hours I'm still in the fucking Vatican and I'm about to delete the heap of shit again.
This modern audience is largely unemployed and you can't buy games with food stamps or bathtub hrt. I never went back to this, like that other kiwi I got to the vatican and just noped the fuck out.
