It's quite amazing how such an average game can do wonders for your career. All of those guys have made at least some good vidya and made people enjoy it, and yet tobert has only made games only troons can relate to.

This is yet another mystery of Toby's, there are arguably a lot of indie games that are more popular and praised than undertale yet you don't see the devs jumping to the top all of a sudden, personal theory of mine is that either he is being actively rewarded by the system for the ideas and themes he spreads or that living in japan and possibly learning the language puts him above 80% of the gaijins that nips have to deal with

My guess is that it has something to do with Toby's connections to 8-4, a localization company based in Japan that published the console versions of Undertale, and has also worked on translations/localizations of various Japanese games, such as Xenosaga, Wild Arms, Fire Emblem, Monster Hunter, and Metal Gear Rising, among others. They were also responsible for the English-to-Japanese localization of indie games like Shovel Knight, Firewatch, Celeste, Hades, UFO 50, and of course, Undertale and Deltarune.
Fellow Starmen.net alumni Clyde "Tomato" Mandelin has also done work for 8-4.

I cannot stress this enough: Disney firing Lasseter was one of the worst things they ever did in recent memory. Disney pretty much became a sequel and remake factory (with a few exceptions) after they got rid of him.

You bet this connection, not looking like a fatso, pimple ridden freak who doesn't shower and who is able to speak the language with an intermediate or even advanced proficiency could certainly put him in a favourable position. I just finished reading this thread, and I have to give props to Bruce Willis for the deep dive into the cancer faggotry that is Tumblr and Undertale. This also functioned as a small primer to the Homestuck "multimedia project" that I'll be driving into next, and I gotta say you describe it better than a lot of faggots online who only heap praise upon it.

Never heard of them. I never really heard about, or was tuned into, pretty much anything on Tumblr that wasn't adjacent to the things I was into. Tumblr's obsession with shipping anything and everything (especially if it was LGBT shipping) would absolutely have massive ripple effects in pop culture, though. Don't get me wrong.

Anyone ever heard of Pen Pals? It's some old RPG Maker thing that Tumblr considers a classic.
It's heavily unfinished but mildly interesting. The true kicker is the ending which is well worth the watch.
You can unmute the video at 3:36 when the tranny stops singing.
There's also "Extremely Pink Game" but in comparison it's a complete bore. Nothing happens and there's nothing really memorable about it.

I remember that a lot of them loved shipping JackSepticEye and Markiplier together and I know this because there was a lot of tumblrites on IFunny back in the day who would post that shit. It's also where I learned about Kpop and how much tumblr loved it, along with other gay ass tumblr fandoms like Voltron.

I have no doubt in my mind that Shmorky had an influence behind the scenes, even if he never got to make anything himself. He was a goon, IJQ was a goon, put two and two together, alongside Shmorky wanting to colab with Rebecca on something, and Shmorky being credited with creating what we now call "the Cal Arts style", and all of a sudden a lot of stuff begins to make sense.
I just wish I could find an archive of the Something Sensitive thread Amanda contributed to. Those quotes from EZ PZ's video are all we have atm.
