I disagree from an anecdotal perspective. I tried positive reinforcement with my dog for 6 months before I finally got a shock collar. Only had to use it for about 2 months. She hasn't bit anybody since then unless they start to play with her. She had a really bad habit of nipping people's hands and legs because she wanted to play, but that scares people and I didn't want her doing it to strangers anymore.

There are sedentary dogs that can lie around in laps all day or just sit on a couch next to you, but these aren't those.
