Only one political party has like 70% of their voters completely dependent on either a welfare check or federal check and it isn't the GOP.

The Republicans would be incredibly foolish to end the shutdown, they hold pretty much 100% of the cards rn.

I wish @Gehenna was here to give his informed view on the matter. He always said the shutdown looked bad for the party who caused it. So I assume he'd say this looks bad for the democrats.

Dems are really having a bad time coming to terms with being in the minority. No rino snakes to bail them out.

I also don't think that that is the real issue as to why medication is so much more expensive here.
It literally is. Pharmaceuticals is one of the most, if not #1, R&D-intensive industries in the economy.

But a fucking fioricet is literally just an Excedrin with a little bit of barbiturate in it. There's no way their mass producing these things for more than 15 cents a piece.
Manufacturing cost isn't the primary cost of lots of things. Teva Pharmaceuticals, who produces Fiorcet, actually lost money last year. We can look at how they spend money, since they're publicly traded:
  • Research and Development (R&D) expenses, net in 2024 were $998 million
  • Selling and Marketing (S&M) expenses in 2024 were $2,541 million
  • General and Administrative (G&A) expenses in 2024 were $1,161 million
  • In 2024, financial expenses, net were $981 million
  • In 2024, we recognized a tax expense of $676 million
For some reason, people do not understand that 100% of these expenses are paid via sales. They think sales should just pay for manufacturing, and the whole rest of the company should operate out of magical money that falls from the sky, I guess.

did he actually die for real in the months I’ve been gone? I do remember him being a geezer.

Does this shutdown allow Trump to keep the federal courts closed? Thats gotta be cathartic for him if so. He can tell the judge putting injunction for unlimited mexicans "umm actually your not essential so this ruling can wait".
our Republic is getting closer and closer to an overly homebrewed DnD campaign

"It dosent SAY I cant do that in the handbook!"

"WE ARE WAY PASSED THE HANDBOOK JARED!"

Funding health care for illegal aliens is extremely unpopular, so the Dems do really own this.

But another thing to consider when it comes to this shutdown is the internal party politics at play. Chuck Schumer is fighting to keep control of the Dems. Apparently, the radical faction of the Dems is driving for this shutdown. Schumer is afraid that he'll lose his position if he doesn't play ball with the radicals. I don't know what his strategy is going to be. Maybe he'll keep up his tough posture while allowing other Dem senators to break ranks to get him off the hook? That way he can save face.

(Anybody who thinks this is just fanfiction can read Speaker Johnson's post about this.)

How did the Farms find out?
Hey, I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Using a new account since my main one for KF I'd prefer to keep WELL away from his work but. Well, On Sunday my dad @Gehenna passed away. He had been having heart issues for a while and he took a bad turn over the weekend. he had, rather playfully, mentioned the "Nutters and secret geniuses" in the thread and had fondly mentioned a few of you guys by username. So I thought to tell you all who held a special place in his jaded heart.

I applied. I pray I get this job, I'm so burnt out from my current job, I literally wake up every day depressed about it. This sounds almost too good to be true, but I hope it is.

I’m adding my prayers to yours. Best of luck in the pursuit of fulfillment and happiness. I’m rooting for you. ❤️

Yeah, it's almost always close enough. Usually just an issue with certain drugs like heart medication, ADHD meds, etc. And usually the cause is cutting corners with different fillers and coatings rather than the active ingredient(s) themselves.
Well, cardiovascular/heart meds are highly variable anyway and my understanding is that's always going to be a pain in the ass. That is also where the EMA is better than the FDA: the EMA is way more strict about approving HVDs, especially generics, than the FDA is.

speaking of @Gehenna, it seems he had one last prediction to share. i missed this in the original Charlie Kirk thread since it was moving so fast

My father warned this would come... and I do not think I ever believed him. I thought he was growing more paranoid in his older years. I was wrong, I was so very wrong. God help us, for we have lost our way.

No, it will be much worse. Months of court dates, meetings with probation officers, maybe a brief lockup but probably community service and a fine and a mark on his record. Those months of court dates are awful. He'll wish he got the bullet.
None of that matters to him. This is Portland. His defense is already well-funded and assured. He will never feel any significant legal consequences for this.

What will really hurt him is the fact that his capture and subjugation was captured and posted for the world to see. Sitting huddled up in that little chair shaking like a little bitch like that? He will never again be able to claim bravery, strength, courage, power, pride or even stubbornness. The world saw him tested by his "oppressors," and we all found him wanting. His moment to stand tall and proud for his actions was instead passed curled up in a little ball quivering in terror.

The world knows he's a coward now. He can never act like a tough guy ever again. Not even with his little antifa butt-buddies.

That is going to fucking kill him.
