House as a character is very entertaining but the majority of people in the show despise him for good reasons. The only reason he gets away with acting the way he does is because Dr. Cuddy is the hospital administrator and protects him. She even mentions that they allocate money in their budget just for lawsuits against House. Why does she keep him around? Because he saves lives and is overall a net good.
