I've said this about 500 pages ago but I suffered a traumatic loss of a family member (violent death) and although I didn't witness it I didn't end up breaking down and crying until like a week or so after it happened. When my parents and I all got together during the phone call we received none of us cried, and I don't think I ever saw them really break down and cry about it. Even after the acute phase of the first few weeks I was in a state of shock and just disassociation for almost a year after - that entire year was a blur looking back. It wasn't until about two years later when I started to realize I was "normal" again. When I had to give the eulogy and deal with lawyers I didn't cry - and there is a ton of busy-body work that goes into a death that you don't realize until it happens. I cannot even imagine actually seeing my brother get domed in person, it's beyond horrific to even imagine. This isn't like a Marvel movie - grief and PTSD are really complicated and it's not surprising to me that she was somewhat composed during her public appearances. I think you couple that with knowing that the public eye is on her and she has gotten a ton of death threats and I don't doubt she was able to compartmentalize to get through the ceremony - but during her speech she very clearly almost breaks down several times during it. I think you're seeing what you want to see here, it was only 10 days after the event.

Then to see David Cross - and Bob Odenkirk, although he's not as rabid as David Cross, but to see them both with rampant TDS and see David Cross constantly on some weird anti-Trump tear makes me question why I liked the show to begin with. I hate that.

Most of the Gen X comedians turned out to be hypocritical disappointments. They went from total free speech, free expression, anti-corporatists to the most pathetic kind of dogmatic, authoritarian, anti-free speech, corporate boot lickers.

As a Gen Xer this confuses me as well. I've watched peers flip over and it confuses the hell out of me. I went to high school with this kid, Brian Scolaro, who went on to become some low-level comedian. He was on some short lived TV series with Pam Anderson and Christopher Lloyd and also did a bunch of stand up. Back in high school he was the class nutcase - always running around and playing pranks on the teacher. Doing all the comedy writing for the yearbook. So it seemed natural that he'd go into comedy and do OK with it.

In recent years though his social media is mostly just him ranting about Trump. His "comedy" now revolves around still crying about Jan 6th and how MAGA tried to overthrow the government. His "jokes" most of the time are just weak jabs at Trump supporters and Jan 6th. One time I commented on one of his posts kind of flipping it back on him with a comment that was funnier than his actual post and he blew a gasket. Told me that if I support Trump to unfollow him, that he doesn't want Trump supporters supporting him.

This was literally a few days after he had sent me a private message begging me for money because he had been recently diagnosed with Parkinson's and his comedian/actor's healthcare doesn't cover the medication at all and he was burning through his savings so I sent him $50. He took the money, found out I was a Trump supporter, then told me to fuck off. Lol some people, I swear.

That, and I feel like much of it has to do with how introspective the comedian/person in question is, and their level of self-esteem. Not self-esteem in the kind of touchy-feely way that many liberals talk about with participation medals for every child (LOL), but in terms of the person's belief in their own resilience and capability to exercise control over themselves and their lives. I think that many of the most rabid woke types are fundamentally trying to externalize profound self-hatred, and it's actually why they feel this impetus to constantly identify factors external to themselves to blame for all the problems in the world.

I also adore (actually good) comedy, and have noticed much the same phenomenon among self-appointed/pro comedians. I realized eventually that the true greats, IMO at least, apply the same analytical lens to themselves and their own behavior as they do to the rest of society. They're able to understand and make fun of themselves as part of their broader social observations, and it makes them both more relatable and a lot funnier. They understand the qualitative difference between making people think, and just straight up telling them what to think; that's the component most "woke" comedians are missing.
