Well shit, my first reaction to the headline was "imagine being such a faggot you get bullied into suicide by middle schoolers", but this is actually fucked up. First of all, I don't think it was the kids that drove him to neck himself, but the accusation of stealing $650k after he quit due to the kids' clearly insane behavior, and then there's this:

I’m not sure Caesar’s pardons played as large a role in his assassination as your hypothesis suggests. Violence had become a rather normalized means of dealing with opponents by that point in the Republic, and had been arguably for almost 100 years tracing back at least to the Gracchi brothers and their deaths.

His increasingly king-like powers probably would have eventually spurred the optimates to attempt to kill him out of fear for the Republic (even if imo he likely never wanted to be a king). Had he not pardoned his enemies from the civil war, it would have just prolonged the conflict.
