I stopped watching a while ago because I didn't like their transition to an episodic format. How could they expect to react quickly to events and stay relevant if stories were already planned out at the start of the season? Also the fact that they were so confident that Trump wouldn't win the 2016 election that they made a main character serve as his analogue demonstrated the fact they were losing touch.

They should have known when to quit and I think they know their time has passed (hence why they keep asking for more and more money per season).

They literally can't. The second they quit, Comedy Central (who own South Park, not Trey and Matt) will replace them and even All Grown Up them if necessary to justify replacing everyone's voice actors.

Honestly, they might be lying. With everything that has happened it wouldn't surprise me they had a political episode almost ready but either they or Comedy Central chickened out. I can see them making fun of Riley Gaines or Elon Musk or JK Rowling. It can't be proven that Kirk episode helped in any way and I don't think it did. But if anyone else they were to make fun of got shot it would be too much to be a coincidence. CC would fear getting shut down.

Maybe this will lead to a soft reboot of the season. I'm not holding my breath though.

Exactly. During the Obama-McCain election they were prepared for both outcomes because there would only be one or two episodes dedicated to it and then they could move on.

Theoretically, you could probably do an episodic series and keep up to date, but it would require a level of impartiality that doesn't exist anymore and recent events would have to be secondary to preplanned character development and jokes.

I re-watched some of the earlier episodes and it feels like I was watching an entirely different show than what South Park is in the current day. The Death Camp Of Tolerance episode from season 6 made me laugh more than all the episodes in the new seasons combined.

I wouldn't say anyone is butthurt, South Park became a parody of its own self. It's sad to see something like that happen to a show we've all at least passively heard of for the past 20 something years. Personally, I've been fan myself and it's sad to see. It's the same kind of shit with Star Wars turning the force into gay lesbians.

Most likely Paramount has demanded the two week timeline, partly as punishment and partly so that they have a week to review and rewrite an episode if it is needed. They probably only got today's episode today which is why they cancelled it with such little notice

I didn't even know that Cartman bit was supposed to be Charlie Kirk because his audience has been people under 21 ever since he first appeared. I get that Parker and Stone have to do this shit because no one from current generation can get off they phone long enough to put in a full day of work, but most people who bother to watch their show (old people) didn't even know what the reference was.
