First degree is different in New York. It’s reserved for cop killers. It’s an unusual law. Second degree in New York is equivalent to first degree in other states, and in other states, New York’s first degree would be ‘first degree under special circumstances’

I've said it before and I'll say it again: the only reason a lot of shit is sort of working right now is sheer organizational momentum. But even that's breaking down left and right. Once it slows and gives out, we are probs in for a totes shitshow.

A serious concern I had regarding zoomers is that the lionshare of them haven't been able to get into the promised entry level jobs, disregarding the poverty the generation is facing down the old greybeards running things were in entry level positions themselves. Be it h1b, be it affirmative action, be it outsourcing or the perpetual state of constant economic woe that means cutting new job positions, the next generation isnt being trained to be the next ones to carry the torch. Things don't look good in the long or short term.
 
Honestly Bondi has been such a disgrace in this administration. If they don't want to go through the drama of kicking her out, they can at least tell her to stfu and get someone else to do all the work for her

A not insignificant portion of it is starting to be self inflicted. Very narrow space here but in the gamedev stuff I do, particularly art and freelance code, there's a concerning number of new entrants to the space who are self pidgeonholing themselves into infeasible positions out the gate because they don't want to learn. Character artists who refuse to learn how to do anything OTHER than drawing characters, become useless when you ask them to do actual concept art and proposals, assuming they even accept doing them. Freelancers who refuse to learn to work with existing tools and libraries because they like what they got and don't want to learn anything else.

They all get a vision of what they want their job to be in their heads, and refuse to accept any of the jobs that are out there - not on grounds of compensation which could be understood, but just refusing work duties that aren't the specific thing they want to do. While game dev attracts a particular grade of autist, I've observed similar in my dayjob field and anecdotally similar stories from my various recruiter and contracting buddies.

The new generation isn't willing to accept that they're selling a product when they look for a job, and that if they aren't offering what people want, they'll never get any buyers. Not sure where that particular brainrot started or how far its gone.

It's up to the state to define what "first degree murder" is, and in New York, plain old premeditated murder is just "second degree murder." "First degree murder" in New York is when you kill a government official or engage in terrorism. 2nd degree can still get you life in prison, as it is a Class A-I felony. Summaries here:

 
That judge’s reasoning is beyond retarded. Basically “he didn’t say he wanted to intimidate or coerce, just that he was against greed!” Apparently New York has a heckin’ decent person standard for leniency.

Not surprising the terrorism charges went away. NY and the retarded judicial political system up there decided to slap it on because other CEOs were kvetching about being shot in the streets. I want to say it was the only charge that carried the risk of death penalty too. It was a shaky charge from the start.

New York hasn't had the death penalty in over twenty years, try watching Law & Order (any flavor) sometime.

Feds do still have the death penalty though and he still has the federal charge that could get it for him, "Murder through use of a firearm." The eventual jury would have to be unanimous on that.
