You are correct. I wasn't implying the pilot was being honest about not switching the fuel off, he did in fact do so (since the co-pilot was busy taking off and wouldn't have had his hands near these switches and since the co-pilot didn't seem suicidal since he had a wedding in a few weeks and seemed to be doing pretty good in life.)

I suspect the pilot said that phrase merely to cloud the investigation, maybe just to respond to the co-pilot without thinking about a reason to do so. But the pilot 100% killed himself and everyone else and I suspect he was trying to conceal, to the best of his ability, that he was the murderer by saying "I did not do that."

Jeets can not admit to not knowing something or doing something wrong. Thats one reason they're so dangerous.
