It was about a week or two ago someone came in and posted how they wanted to give their left-wing viewpoint and the concerns they have with the Trump administration. They got as far as I saw zero hate and many people talked about things they agreed with.
You're right to call out only one side can post inflammatory shit without people piling on. It's not like I'm innocent of doing that. And you would be right to say that makes the environment not equal.
But when people can come in and post 10 points of things they disagree with and don't like that most of the thread does, and get nothing but support for giving an alternative viewpoint, attempts at finding common ground, or reasoned explanations for why someone still disagrees, that is hardly enforcing consensus.
Yeah, I agree. I think HHH is a bad actor, and it's not because he's a bad poster, it's because of the consensus enforcement I was talking about. I don't want to "both sides" about this. I agree that there's not really anything stopping anyone from coming here, and most of what posters here won't tolerate is just worthless slopposting. I think what gets me is just all the "Democrats are cooked, they'll never win another election" posting. People who are very much not sad Charlie Kirk died are incredibly common, they're even on this site, they're just not in this thread much. They're not just a fun TV show to hatewatch and root for them to get fired, a huge number of them are going to vote in 2026. I'd agree, it
should be hard to justify not feeling bad that this guy, whose sin was debating college students in an annoying way, having the wrong opinions and not being afraid to voice them, and doing effective political campaigning, was murdered in front of his loving family, but lots of people manage it!
Some of them probably believe false things about Kirk. This only shows the huge hole we're in in academia and the media. Things have
started to shift on this front, but that is a dim light at the end of a long tunnel. Anyone who thinks we're out of the tunnel just has no idea how bad things really were. Others are simply appalled that he gets to have the opinions he does and say them out loud. They have a solution to the Kirk assassination problem: no guns, and hatespeech laws. It is as unconscionable to them that a man has the power to kill as to hold the wrong views, and the solution is the same either way. Democrats are committed, they're a third of the country, they don't feel bad about Kirk, and they're not going to police themselves out of any commitment to your right to disagree.
Trump already gets called a fascist, and there have been multiple attempts on his life; an ally was just killed. What I'm saying is that if he wants to be anything other than the ineffectual brakes on our slow slide into degeneration,
it's going to get loud. Moderate Democrats will be advocating open treason and violence. Teachers will need to be fired for political reasons (they won't acknowledge these beliefs as political). If you want tolerance, you'll probably have to send in the national guard like they did in the 50s, and they might actually have to
use the rifles, at least once or twice. I'm not a fatpacks doomer, but that's what I truly believe we're up against, and the reason I don't like echo chambers is complacency.
