It's kindof funny, because people are looking at his familial situation and assuming political beliefs as a result of that. In a country of 330M+ people, the idea that you can just magically distill one of two flavors from circumstances like that are hilarious. Maybe he really hated Kirk's stances on everything. I think the exposure to pop culture media and because of its atheist/secular nature contributes heavily to that.
