This is quite pertinent to today, when 25 years ago on this day America united like we haven’t seen since WW2. Everyone was flying the flag, had “These Colors Don’t Run” bumper stickers. There was no right and left, just Americans. And our allies came to our defense in a second. Canada, the UK, etc made room for our stranded citizens who couldn’t fly home. We united as a country, citizenry and world.

Now? Fuck to have lived through that and see this, it’s depressing. It makes me ashamed of where we are. We should be coming together over school shootings and tragedies, not diefying a man who said our children’s lives are not worth his gun.

No one should be gunned down in cold blood in front of their family. But I have little sympathy for a guy getting shot while making excuses for the epidemic of shootings taking our children’s lives.

I just had a realization that a lot of this site was likely not alive 25 years ago and have no idea what a truly united America is. We’re in a race to the bottom and the only winners are the guys who already got born on third and think they hit a home run.

You know what? No. Going around starting arguments and pissing people off isn't glamourous. It's standing up and getting drinks thrown at you and getting spat on. Yeah, he was a massive shit stirrer, not a modern day Cicero as some of his eulogists are claiming. I disagree, I think Kirk is just the right level of target to send a strong message that nobody's safe. Closely related enough to Trump to make it clear relatives and associates are fair game, a recognizable enough figure to stir up a storm that can smokescreen other events, all while being detached enough from the actual political machine to not cause any unforeseen ripples in the status quo. Every one of the Trump attempts were shot dead within 30 seconds, yet a proper assassination - the highest profile one on American soil in decades at that - has somehow left the entire government clueless for over 24 hours. Unless there's a completely airtight story to come out of this I'm calling shenanigans. That's my read on it anyway.

Charlie doesnt have the security details trump has and hasn't had a reason to beef up his security beyond letting cops know he'll be in town and some fags might try to swat him. He's never been a victim of direct violence before. Trump is a former president and a largely hated one at that.
