I do genuinely think mass shootings are a symptom of our nihilistic cynical end of empire civilization that we're living under and there would be significantly less random acts of mass violence if things weren't so bleak and one bedroom apartments weren't $1500 a month.

Boomers lose their fucking minds if you say this though. They are desperate to blame Columbine clones on rap music, or booby anime, or videogames instead of MY HECKIN CORPOS that I worship like Gods!
I don’t think it’s a dying empire thing and more of a social contagion. It’s effectively a revenge against society attack that you see in a lot of countries, but aren’t reported on. The Chinese will do mass stabbings, driving cars into pre-schoolers, and other shit. It’s a basically impotent rage boiling over and rather than attacking the source of their frustration (still a shitty thing to do, but far more understandable) they attack people who can’t fight back.

It’s not dying empire, but I’d argue a pre-existing issue blown up exponentially by society being more and more atomized. The Internet destroyed the old ways of coping with this and replaced it with therapy and drugging people up. You can blame Boomers for this atomization, and in some cases rightfully. A lot of them pushed for this. They wanted to destroy certain barriers and fences without understanding why and we all suffer for it.

No verified sources yet but...

this would actually be great because it should be a really easy lawsuit and it would probably actually make it to the supreme court lolthis is the end result of a bunch of blue states using those Race/religious based restrictions they found for bruen

If you don't know, the supreme court has been VERY against taking gun cases (though recently they have started to get better)
Bruen (SC decision) stated that you have to find a historical analogue for modern day gun laws at the time of the founding (most courts in blue circuits are ignoring this anyway lol)
A lot of DAs and AGs found extremely racist laws banning blacks and injuns from owning guns and have used those to justify their current gun laws.
The great thing is either way we win if that happens

It genuinely makes me ill watching people cheer for big pharma and their shills because orange man bad.

Pharmaceutical companies are some of the most evil and destructive entities in the modern world and If I was a big pharma executive I would live in mortal fear of the day where I had to stand before the lord and explain my sins because there is no satisfactory answer.
It's worse because its the exact same fuckers who would have gladly told you about all the evil of capitalist corpo profiteers at Big Pharma, then 2020 happened and the brave The Science heros at Pfizer will personally lead us to the Superior Future (TM)!

I fully admit to being a far more cynical person than most but one of my first thoughts when the Covid shit started really going off the rails was

"Isn't this just the concept of God's mighty vengeance repackaged with a thin veneer of pseudoscience and medical cargo cult worship?"

Yes, and it's the same game they use with Global Warming as the Wrath of Gaia.

The true "Tiebreaker" is someone who does not consume newsmedia and stays at home. They are not tied to a party and have no views on what is good or bad, they simply go with the flow.
So Facebook Boomers who hate California and would get swayed in a heartbeat if Vance scores a debate headshot.

It's not that I have hope, it's that I have that little faith in Newsom to survive the debates Vance would have every reason to clamor for.
Hence, if the population of "decideds" were equal (Thankfully, it is not), Vance would lose to Newsom since Vance is worse looking and has a bad habit of making valid and rational arguments designed to be understood, rather than loudly saying buzzwords while looking good.
He's also got MAGA behind him, both linguistically, metaphorically, and philosophically. If we're considering meme looks, it's also no context. Vance wins hands down, even his enemies must meme him and this fits squarely into the 2016 playbook that got Trump over the hump.
Remember, these "people" do not actually understand what is being said, they just want to feel like that person is worthy of leading them.
"Hey Newsom, how went leading the fire department? Did you blaze a new trail or did ya flame out?"

Dead where he stands. TDD.

Final update on Lowell, MA: I was right.

From: WCVB 5: "Police recover replica rifle, identify suspect after UMass Lowell campus scare" (Source/Archive)
LOWELL, Mass. — Investigators have recovered a replica weapon and identified a suspect who set off a security scare on the campus of UMass Lowell.

The scary sighting of an individual brandishing a rifle was reported just before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday on the institution's South Campus. Video of the individual quickly began to circulate on social media.

UMass Lowell and law enforcement ordered the campus to shelter in place for several hours as numerous police and federal agencies scoured the area.

One student said he received a text alert from the university and found shelter in a storage room on campus immediately after one of his classes was dismissed.

"Some of us came to the closet, some stayed in a bigger lecture hall. This whole building has been fully locked down the entire time," student Mike Regish said.

Another student barricaded himself inside his dorm room when he received the campus alert.

"It's your first day of college classes ever, my roommates are out and about at classes, and I'm the only one here," said Donny Felscuti.

Deputy Superintendent Mark LeBlanc of the Lowell Police Department said Thursday morning that detectives continued to investigate even after the shelter-in-place order was lifted and patrol officers stayed in the area overnight.

According to LeBlanc, investigators identified a juvenile male in connection with the incident and recovered the firearm. They discovered the rifle was an airsoft replica weapon.

LeBlanc's statement did not provide identifying details about the suspect.

UMass Lowell has approximately 16,900 undergraduate and graduate students, with 3,700 living on campus across 10 residence halls.
Here is the airsoft gun recovered:

Gun people should enjoy the presence of two optics.

The suspect is a minor and there is no information on him. In Massachusetts, a toy gun painted over to look real is treated the exact same as a real gun. This kid, if prosecuted, will likely get serious gun charges.
