One of the greatest things I ever learned in the service was laws around minefields.
Basically, if a minefield is laid there is an obligation under international law to mark its perimeter with at least a single-strand barbed wire fence with ‘Achtung Minen’ skull and crossbones or similar warning signs every 20-30 feet or so.
The trick is that this can also be done without laying a minefield. There’s also nothing stopping a merry prankster from burying coins, bottle caps, old food cans, batteries, nails etc in the pseudo-minefield to set off metal detectors.
Someone wanting to force official powers into a slow and expensive process of clearance could theoretically use this to block roads, especially backwoods dirt roads, which are prime routes for escape and evasion. Not from aerial or drone surveillance, of course, but nothing’s perfect.
One of the most amusing outcomes of the GWOT is the creation of a large cohort of people who know all about FISH and CHIPS (fighting in someone’s house, causing havoc in people’s streets), urban small-unit tactics, infrastructure targeting and more. The leftists can LARP and riot but if a civil war is going to break out, its skilled-up right-wingers who are going to make life difficult for TPTB.
Just keep a candy bar in your pocket and if it suddenly starts go soft and melty remove yourself from the area.*
*Seriously this is a joke, don’t do this and don’t fuck around with any directed-energy anything, ever.
