Yeah, yeah, I chickened out and used ChatGPT, but it drew this to show how the Federation "wraps" around the Romulans and mushes with the Klingons.

Using the example of a Jell-O mould, you can slide it on one axis to make it 2-D and it looks like the Federation is somehow mysteriously on the "other side" of the Romulans and Klingons. But there's plenty of room for there to be star systems above and below the z-axis.
