The interesting thing about Trump's strategy with regards to China is that he is the president that pivoted away from an 'engagement' policy with China into a policy of containment. Ever since Nixon opened up trade relations with China the USA has enabled the PRC to dig their way slowly out of poverty and become the power that they are today. If China is a monster it is most certainly a creation of the US and without us they wouldn't be the country that they are otherwise. The issue with America and Trump in particular is that there is no concrete plan to "contain" a country that everyone in the world so heavily relies on. China's slave labor has made it so cheap to just buy shit from them that it has completely warped the incentives of countries that trade with them because there is no way in hell an American worker making 24-30$ an hour can compete with cheap Chinese labor.

So Trump can't isolate China to any meaningful degree, he can't bring back manufacturing because Americans won't work for 2 bucks an hour, and if he decides to pull a Douglas McArthur and invade the PRC with his obese burger brigades it would explode the world economy. All he can do is cope and seethe live on television because the Chinese know we don't have shit to counter them and that America has played its geostrategic cards in the worst way possible. If the US wanted to actually tackle the China issue they should never have pushed the Russians and the Chinese into each others arms because it's a match made in heaven that makes for an impossible foe with serious industrial capacity to back them up.

With regard to the other issues we're pretty much already there. The US surveillance state has been taking notes out of the Chinese social credit system for years. If you say the wrong thing or don't tow the line you'll get de-banked or deplatformed just like in China. Real wages have been stagnant for multiple decades now and Trump has the gall to go on TV to say that somehow a messy trade war will "increase" wages. He has and will do nothing about censorship or mass surveillance - the entire purpose of his presidency is to redirect the resources of the state into throwing people in jail for criticizing Israel or for lawfully protesting. The president has unlimited power to solve the issues of our day outside the confines traditionally set forth in US law, but he won't because he is part of the deep state. So yeah, it's pretty bad.

Well, I don't think NPR is shutting down. Only 15% of its budget is federal, most of it is through donation drives. I expect there to be a lot more on the radio.

It's probably not going to have too much impact on NPR, save like I said, increased donation drives. However, it will hit PBS much harder, likely disrupting a lot of programs. Though I suspect some of that slack may be picked up, or at least shows bought outright and slammed onto streaming services which... meh.

Losing NPR would have been a tragedy. It’s probably one of the last “real” journalism sources out there.

Well from the MAGA point of view there's somewhat of a split between how Russia is viewed versus how China is viewed. Russia is viewed in a relatively warm light by MAGA because Russia is a Christian nation that has slowly recovered itself after wrestling with the many troubles that were had that occurred during the collapse of the Soviet Union. While politically the Russian Federation is still an enigma it is nominally an Orthodox country and the religion has steadily gained traction as the Russians are attempting to define their post Soviet identity. They themselves have a sort of schizophrenic view towards the Soviet Union - the Union oppressed the Russian people and enacted terrible crimes against Christians in particular during the early days of the Soviet Union from the time of Lenin to Stalin, but also the Soviet Union saved the Russian people from the Germans during the Great Patriotic War. China on the other hand is a completely different story. If you look at the MAGA or Alt-ZOG BAPist pedo twitter landscape you'll find an almost rabid self destructive hatred towards China, which is precisely where those in power want them to be.

Both Russia and China oppose the sort of 'woke' DEI stuff that has been pushed by the United States so much because much of this rhetoric about human rights, LGBTQ rights and "democracy" is often used as a gigantic Trojan horse that has been used to subvert the societies of both Russia and China with the help of Non-governmental organizations. War by other means, essentially. The main goal of Trump & the current administration rolling back DEI and bringing back white men into the fold isn't necessarily to placate them into accepting a strong Russia or China - the main purpose in doing these things is to get white men to trust in the system once more and sign up for the US military so that they will go and commit regime change for the powers that be. In other words, all the powers that be have to do to get MAGA to sign up for catastrophic wars that will tank America as world hegemon is to publicly throw the woke DEI shit in the trash.

The typical MAGA supporters upon seeing the whipping that has hurt young men, especially young white men for the past decade cease will breathe a sigh of relief at the impression that "woke" has finally been defeated. They will cheer as all the "based" slop ads are rolled out and cry out that the image of the white man has finally been rehabilitated. This will encourage them to reinvest in the system that has so abused and dispossessed them for decades but make no mistake - the end goal of the powers that be was and still is the total extermination of these people, AKA whites. The objective is to use white men one last time, throwing them into the meat grinder in order to try and forcibly install regimes that are friendlier to our elites in both Russia and China. The issue at hand with China specifically is not necessarily any of their glaring underlying societal flaws. What the West wants in particular is to be the one holding the whip in China - they don't really have a problem with an Orwellian state or anything else to be found in China as we discussed. The *main* problem Western elites have is that they want to install a Western friendly ruling class in China to run the country for them, and the CCP doesn't want this because it would mean they wouldn't get to control the country.

I got flak for uttering similar opinion on other threads but I'll say it here: China, Japan and South Korea (don't know about Best Korea) have way more cultural sharing and a trade history that goes way back until Japan went imperialist on China and Korea and this was like, from 90 to more than a 100 years ago. The last time they had a war before that was in the 1590s.

The "Japan-Korea-China" hateboner is found among the Boomer or Silent Generation and 2channel/Wumao spergs. I doubt Millenials/Gen Z there give a fuck about what went down on WWII.

I mean, kinda. Apu was probably the most well known Indian stereotype for most Americans who didn't have interactions with Indians. And because he mostly seemed like "one of the guys" just like Homer or Skinner or Wiggum or anyone else (and even more competent in some cases), it was easy to like him.
When they removed him, I don't think there was any major positive stereotype; which left Indian stereotypes to be either BS customer service guys who can't solve problems for shit, or worse, scammers bilking $10000 from hapless victims. Which definitely ruined people's views on Indians.

Same shit seems to be happening with Trump. For the longest time, people saw Americans as loud and obnoxious and loving action and guns too much (compared to the rest of the world). However, the same Americans were also seen as open, welcoming, friendly and boisterous, and the only "bad Americans" would always be some kinda rich guy in a suit out to destroy everything.
Thanks to Trump, the "positive stereotypes" for America slowly seem to be waning.
