I made a post like this a few months ago, but the evolution of design and construction of the pyramids is well understood. You can go to Egypt and see the design process and iteration that went from Mud Brick structures, to step pyramids to the pyramids built as they tried to figure out what angle they need to be. The linear history of them being built is very clear.
Their construction aligned with a period where they had nothing better for thousands of men to do during the inundation period (time of year the Nile is flooded and so they can't farm). Priorities and allocations of resources changed.
Alot of the progression of ancient Egyptian society and what they did is very well understood. From temple design, even to how they carved their reliefs and how techniques improved.
