Apparently this guy has said that he has already killed 13 people and will continue to do so until he is taken out.

Any Kiwi's in Cleveland stay inside, stay armed, and stay safe.

Edit: Turned out this guy lost all of his money through gambling and found out he got cucked by his girlfriend, so he is taking out his anger on society.

Former Clevelander checking in. Still friends with alot of people who still live there and Facebook has been a nonstop stream of understandably terrified people. It's very chilling, especially since Easter Sunday is usually Easter Egg hunts and candy and family photos on my feed. Some people mentioned canceling their kids' Easter egg hunts because they were afraid to be in thrir own front yards. Senseless random killings like this are uncommon, even in Cleveland. Or at least they were when I was there.

Apparently this guy was a case worker at a mental health facility in Cleveland. A friend who works in the field has shared countless horror stories about case workers being let go on a regular basis for major ethics violations, such as stealing medication ftom their clients. Compared to most people in the field who have degrees and engage in continuing education, all you need to be a case worker is a high school diploma and a pulse. The turnover rate is very high.

Apparently the car was found in a suburb east of Cleveland (not to be confused with East Cleveland) with the suspect still on the loose. It's scary because I used to work a few blocks fron where the car was found in an office complex. It's a nice area with stores like Micro Center, World Market, Guitar Center and near some wealthy neighborhoods. Hopefully they catch this guy soon.
 
The victim's name was Robert Godwin Sr. He was 74 years old. The media always makes a big deal about the killer, but never the victim, so I felt that his name should be posted and that he deserves to be acknowledged, even in death.

Robert Godwin Sr. was 74 year old a retired foundry worker.

He had 9 children, 14 grandchildren and a lot of great grandchildren. He was a quiet man and a good guy.

In his retirement, he liked to go fishing on Saturday mornings.

Godwin Sr. collected aluminum cans and often walked with a shopping bag to pick up ones he saw on the ground.

Godwin Jr. said his father was looking for cans during a walk on Sunday, Sav-A-Lot bag in tow, when he was approached by Stephens the pathetic excuse of a subhuman.

He said he last saw his father Sunday morning when his father came by his house to pick up a piece of basketball equipment for one of his other sons.

"He hugged my wife and me and said 'I'll see you guys next time,'" Godwin Jr. recounted. "I said 'OK, enjoy your Easter.'"

Multi-state manhunt for suspect in Facebook video murder

The search for a Cleveland man who shot and killed an elderly man and shared a gruesome video of the incident on Facebook has been expanded to include the FBI, U.S. Marshals and other state police departments, Cleveland Police said Monday morning.

Cleveland police chief Calvin Williams said Monday morning police have been searching “unceasingly” for Stephens, but “to no avail.” He said detectives briefly established contact with Stephens on his cellphone.

“[Detectives] tried to of course convince him to turn himself in, and that hasn’t happened to date,” Williams said. “We’re still asking Steve to turn himself in, but if he doesn’t, we’ll find him.”

Williams added that police have also been in contact with the woman whose name Stephens repeatedly mentioned in the video, and that she is co-operating with the investigation.

Stephens, who went by “Stevie Steve” on Facebook, claimed to have committed over a dozen murders, Williams confirmed, although police haven’t learned of any other victims.

he may have been driving on I-80 towards Buffalo, Ohio
his cellphone has been pinged in PA
he's driving a white ford fusion sedan with temp plates
there has been no confirmation of the other ~13 victims, just this one
Joy Lane was the ex-girlfriend; she's wiped her social footprint and is apparently safe with police (although a screenshot of her last post said he was a "nice guy"...eh)
Steve Stephens (killer) apparently worked at Beech Brook, a children's mental health facility, for the past 11 years

The search has been expanded to the entire midwest; Indiana, Michigan, New York and Pennsylvania. Police aren't sure where he is right now.

The video of the murder was not livestreamed; FB confirmed it was uploaded after the fact, and taken down after three hours. He did livestream at one point.

He had no prior criminal record, only multiple traffic violations.

"Williams said that Cleveland Police Department detectives made contact with Stephens via cell phone early in the investigation. However, they were unable to convince Stephens to turn himself in. At an evening press conference on April 16, city officials said there had not been an official sighting of Stephens since the murder occurred at around 2 p.m."

"Tonya Godwin-Baines, Robert Godwin Sr.'s daughter, told Fox 8 that the murder of her father was not Lane's fault and that the woman was in her family's thoughts and prayers. Godwin-Baines also urged Stephens to turn himself in and said she forgives him for what he did."

"The Ohio Department of Transportation has shared pictures of Stephens' car with its Twitter followers. Digital highway signs in the Cleveland area have also been updated to aid in the search."

I'm definitely leaning towards him being in hiding now. Maybe he snapped, shot the guy, and that snapped him back out of his insanity enough for him to be holed up somewhere thinking "I done fucked up."

Doesn't quite work like that, sadly. Most CCTV cameras in a city are black and white, 480p cameras that can pan but not zoom. It's not an exaggeration to say that the camera on an iPhone is more useful than a CCTV model simply because it's in color. The car he drives will blend in with just about every other light colored model on the road, and the only thing that could nail his plates long enough to pin his location would be the cameras at a border crossing or toll.

No confirmation of any other victims; as far as anyone knows, there was only one.

"Police in Philadelphia are saying Steve Stephens, wanted for murder in Cleveland, was not located in Fairmount Park after numerous reports of sightings of the "Cleveland Facebook Killer" in the area. Police searched the area and are now saying there is no indication Stephens is located in Philadelphia."

"Nine Philadelphia-area schools are on lockdown as a "precaution," according to police. "So far there is no indication that the subject is in the plateau," police said.

Steve Stephens allegedly attacked Robert Godwin Sr., shot him dead and then proceeded to upload the video of the killing to Facebook. According to police, the suspect claimed to have committed multiple other homicides, though that has not been verified. As of Monday, April 17, police say they have not found any additional victims or incidents connected to Stephens. The FBI is assisting Cleveland police with the investigation."

EDIT: "Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams said the search for Stephens has gone national and that "no stone will be left unturned." Additionally, Williams vowed that law enforcement would follow up on every tip that is submitted. The FBI, ATF, and US Marshals are now offering $50,000 for tips and information that help lead to Stephens arrest, Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson announced Monday afternoon."

Supposedly, I've only heard this as a rumor, the guy has been found in Pennsylvania after he committed suicide by gun. I think killing the one guy snapped him out of whatever rage/psychosis he was in and he took his life because things were only going to get worse for him.
