What conspiracy theories do you believe in? - Put your tinfoil hats on

Anyone who disagrees with me is paid and anyone who agrees with me is completely organic
Is it paid by the post or hourly? Hopefully you all get a couple breaks throughout the day and aren't overworking you.
"Organic" is a psy-op to trick you into paying more for the same opinions.
It's like Nike shoes. You're paying for the swoosh on the side.

On the topic of conspiracies though. The dumbing down of TV that happened over the last 20ish years. Anyone else remember when there were actual documentaries on TLC and it was partnered with colleges and universities? In the middle 2000s they switched to reality TV slop like my 600 pound life, hoarders, honey boo boo and John and Kate Plus 8.

That's because of something called "Network drift" where the people in charge of making programming decisions are essentially putting a mic up to a speaker.

Step 1. Start as an Appalachian educational project
Step 2. Change to "The Learning Channel" to keep existing viewers and expand to new ones
Step 3. Survey who's watching, figure out the age, sex, and educational level for who makes up the bulk of viewers
Step 4. Start adding in more "entertainment" shows tailored specifically to keep existing viewers and expand to new ones
Step 5. Two planes hit the Twin Towers in New York and a missile (fight me) hits the Pentagon, people develop ravenous craving for comfort
Step 6. Repeat steps 3-4 and gain an influx of more comfort-seekers
Step 7. Sub-prime mortgage crisis, people lose homes, want even more comfort and more relatable content
Step 8. Launch "Personal stories" focus to keep existing viewers and expand to new ones
Step 9. Repeat steps 3-4

Volcanology seems like a field that's extremely niche and thus chronically underfunded. If Climate Change Academia has proven anything, it's that the strategy of "This model we made shows that the world will end TOMORROW unless you give us thrembo billion dollars RIGHT NOW" is the easiest way to secure funding. So they go out and pick a volcano, write a doomsday prophecy saying "If this volcano ever erupts, it will literally destroy the world" and boom. Infinite money glitch.
Volcanos are real, but the idea that one could end the world is perfect popsci fanfiction bait

it falls onto the Zoomers to figure it out. We Zoomers are quite literally the first generation to have had access to Internet porn from basically day one, and because of that we understand the danger and reality of what’s going on here.
I have had some thoughts on this before. One idea I had that is probably the most feasible first step, outside of outright banning pornography, is to get pornographic websites to be forced onto some kind of registry that would be very easy to use by parents to block any connections to or from those sites. This would avoid the whole "gib government ID" shit that people worry about for very reasonable security concerns but still make it easy for a parent to prevent their kids from accessing such sites. If it's an easily accessed registry too then even if a site does not volunteer itself to be added it can instead be added when there is any real evidence to show for it. I worry that some sites would try to skirt around this to try and implicitly advertise/make themselves available to kids, but a law or two that gives very harsh punishments for actions like that can help there.

What's clear though is that a site can not just have its NSFW material hidden behind a "Are you old enough to view this? :) " pop-up or trying to keep it hidden with the age given for the user's account. We all know kids just lie if they want to get to that material. Having a site split itself up into two pieces, one for SFW content and one for NSFW content and having the NSFW site listed on the registry thus makes it so that the parent in control of the router is the first barrier and not an easy to get past pop up. It can't help kids with negligent or even malicious parents but those kids are already in an uphill battle. At the very least even remotely diligent parents can make things safer for their kids.

Better than a registry though would be mandating a certain IP range for all pornographic sites and just punishing any site that's for sharing/selling pornography outside of those IP ranges. No need to worry about the registry fucking up or being too slow or inefficient to handle it all. A blanket block on a whole IP range quickly solves the problem for the majority of porn sites(and certainly all of the popular ones). This would be harder to do though and would likely require a good deal of international cooperation. Nothing stops both a registry and an IP range solution from being implemented though. More is better in this case.

Another idea is to more properly enforce any laws that punish grooming of kids and to make the punishments more harsh. Companies like Roblox and Discord should be under international investigation at this point too. Roblox is more egregious from what I've seen involving Ruben Sim, but Discord doesn't have clean hands either.

I think culturally Zoomers will just be divided into two main groups of parents. Parents who know better and keep their kids away from a good deal of the internet and watch what their kids get involved in and parents who just let their iPad and iPhone raise the squirts. The former group I think will be become larger and larger over time.

There is actually tons of geological evidence showing super volcano eruptions in the past, so they do exist and the amount of ejecta is staggering and horrifying. There's even some correlations with dips in human populations from genetic and historical evidence that lines up with super volcano eruptions in the past. It's not certain if super volcanoes are really that bad for the whole planet though(even that wikipedia article mentions how there's controversy with the Toba catastrophe hypothesis), but on a local scale they're apocalyptic. I know of at least one cool fossil formation from the eruption of a super volcano in the Ashfall Fossil Beds. The entire formation is set in a kind of volcanic cement from ashes that had drifted down, reacted with water and then cured. PBS Eons also did a wonderful video on it all too:

The whole "Yellowstone is gonna blow up and we're all gonna die!" is definitely overblown and the risk for any super volcano eruption is going to mainly be with people living near to it(if Yellowstone did blow tomorrow though the US and Canada would be fucked but the old world would probably get through it well enough). It'd be a major disaster to happen in any nation but it won't end the world so you're definitely right on that. It will almost certainly cause a major volcanic winter though. A volcanic eruption in more modern times, the Krakatoa eruption, caused significant climate issues for about a couple of years after its eruptions and cooled(and darkened) the planet slightly during that time. Volcanic winters are what nuclear winters were inspired and based on after all. I don't think it'll lead to a global famine, but third-world shitholes likely would have major crop failures and I wouldn't be surprised if they somehow outscaled the death toll for the people around the super volcano itself just with famine. Here's a picture from the wiki that depicts what the skies were like due to Krakatoa's eruption.

There are more apocalyptic geological events than super volcanoes though. LIPs, and particularly flood basalts, show catastrophic releases of magma that form nation-sized rock formations. The funny part is that they can actually form two apocalyptic events(at least for animal and plant life, we could likely beat these events industrially) for the price of one. The initial event with the release of noxious gases and devastation from vast areas being burned to a crisp and turned into a hot, rocky desert and then later when those LIPs are weathered and release tons of nutrients into the water and also capture tons of CO2 and mess with ocean pH levels. These secondary event can cause eutrophication of coastal waters and are thought to cause global temperatures to plummet. Flood basalts are linked to several mass extinction events in Earth's history where as super volcano eruptions(assuming they aren't making a flood basalt) on their own only seem to cause little hiccups for life.

Yellowstone is actually interesting in that some NASA researchers put up a proposal before to use it for geothermal power that would not only delay(or even stop any possible eruptions) but also power a very sizeable portion of the US. Something like 6 gigawatts of power is emitted from Yellowstone in heat currently(according to that article), but their proposal would see it sapping even more heat out as energy. The US for reference produces something like 477 gigawatts of power on average(from this wiki article for 2023's total generation of 4,178 terrawatt hours, to get 4,178,000 gigawatt hours / (365 * 24) = 477~ gigawatts), so you could with just the current heat released by Yellowstone's geysers and pools get about 1% of our total energy production(assuming the impossible task of 100% efficiency, 30-50% is the more likely range depending on design) but with more industrial means that could almost certainly be bumped up by maybe 2x that of the natural heat loss from the hydrothermals there if we sacrificed those. More than that too if you want the chamber to get colder and colder. I do wonder if cooling the magma chamber would cause dissolved gases to come out of solution from the magma and if that couldn't potentially cause a runaway effect and lead to an eruption too...

If I'm not mistaken either this kind of geological formation with geysers/hot springs fed by cooling magma chambers is actually how quite a few gold deposits are formed. Superheated water with some gold atoms travelling up through seeps. The cooling water in these seeps causes gold to then solidify in those seeps, along with helping to form quartz crystals which often will contain whole flecks of gold. Would be neat to try and harvest gold from geothermal power from Yellowstone and it'd fit with its name :).
TL;DR: Super volcanoes are real and their eruptions would be horrific, but they won't end the world. They'd be apocalyptic to people anywhere near them when they erupt but people on the other side of the world can weather that more than likely. If Yellowstone erupted it'd be the single most devastating thing to happen in the histories of the US and Canada but it wouldn't be that bad for the old world(minus dindus and pajeets :optimistic: ). The skies would look cooler too :)

From the news I've heard about that "Epstein Island" before that was shut down, it reminded me of the Wikipedia summary of "The 120 Days of Sodom": this isolated place where corrupt wealthy have their way with youths. Life shouldn't imitate "art" there. BTW I haven't read the story -- nor do I want to -- but even a Wikipedia summary may be NSFL.

The bid to structure ethics around consent is an effort undertaken by psychopaths to provide an ethical smokescreen for their immoral actions. The majority of people haven't cottoned on to the fact that "they consented" is an entry in the same lineage as "Vae Victus" or "I tricked them, so they deserved it". Eventually (:optimistic:) a colloquial understanding of nudge theory, statistical psychology and mass manipulation will spread and "they consented" will need to be replaced with something else, but until then, "they chose this" will be trotted out constantly by tptb to excuse blatant atrocities.

Isn’t this something TPTB do, like whenever you watch a talmudvision show you’re basically consenting to some demonic ritual?

Depending on where you are in the world and when relative to the eruption then you'll either see the skies totally blacked out(you're in the splash zone, good luck and pray), dimmer skies, the skies colored to varying degrees(depends on a lot of factors but reddish-brown or orange coloration are the most common kinds to my knowledge. The famous painting of The Scream is speculated to show this off according to the wikipedia page.) and an effect with the sun called Bishop's Ring which gives the sun a brown or blue halo. The latter is associated most often with volcanic eruptions but you just need lots of dust high up in the atmosphere for it. Here's a picture from the wikipedia page to show what a Bishop's Ring looks like.

Volcanic eruptions can also create lightning within their ash clouds. The pictures of volcanic lightning are all really cool too.

I can imagine the ash clouds that'd cover a good deal of the sky in the immediate area having lightning dancing through them if the conditions are right. Also the kinds of sulfuric acid droplets in the upper atmosphere that volcanic eruptions emit are actually analogous to the kind found in Venus's upper atmosphere too. In both cases they help to cool the planet down, but in Venus's case it's not enough to keep the planet from being a hellhole. For Venus though they form the clouds in its atmosphere that obscure its surface. This means you can expect a kind of white haze in the sky if the conditions are right, but this would likely be during the next few years after the eruption and not so easily seen immediately following it.

Venus is extra weird though. One example would be evidence for "Venutian Snow" which is thought to be lead and bismuth sulfides snowing down on Venus.

even if a site does not volunteer itself to be added it can instead be added when there is any real evidence to show for it.
i worry something like that is going to cause another Tumblr situation, where any social media or blogging website that lets users post their own content will naturally have people posting pornography on it- which, really, how do you prevent that without encroaching on peoples' rights more? and will result in more and more websites tightening their grip on controlling their users

the web needs to be free, the problem is that normalfags can't control themselves and we had to guard it from them, and guard them from themselves
we just need another massive campaign about not letting kids online before they're old enough, not sharing personal info, not meeting with strangers off the web, etc- but, we will never have that because entire industries are now reliant on stupid people doing just all those things

You make a lot of good points and I can't help but agree with you on all of it. I can't help but feel like TPTB will try to turn the panic and disdain the pornography and grooming crisis is making into another opportunity to police people and control them more though.

no matter how bad a crisis it, more government and/or control cannot fix it
especially if it's a cultural one
