I completely lost respect for Tucker after he hit Ted Cruz with a gotcha series, and I dislike Ted Cruz (not half as much as John Cornyn, but still). He never asked Putin those kinds of questions. For those who don't really understand what Tucker was doing, the point of a gotcha series, which is an age-old MSM tactic, is to make your interviewee look stupid. What you do is prepare a sequence of trivia questions of increasingly esoteric nature. If your subject gets one right, you silently go to the next question (so the audience doesn't notice what the subject gets right) until he gets one wrong, then you lambaste him for being a fool.

The first question was, "What's the population of Iran?" Tucker's go-to, "How do you not know basic facts about the country?" was clearly rehearsed. His prepared responses were likely something like:

• 80 million or less: "That number is at least 20 years out of date. How much of your Iran knowledge is decades out of date?"
• 80-100 million: "You don't know the actual number? How do you not know this?"
• 100 million or more: "That's way too high. Iran isn't that large; why would you think it is? Where do you get your information? Is all your information this bad?"
• 90 million: "The actual answer is 91.5 million, are America's bombing targets chosen this imprecisely?"
• 91.5 million: Tucker nods, silently proceeds to ask demographic questions.

If Ted Cruz had rattled off in detail all the population and demographic figures, Tucker would have simply not acknowledged his answers, then moved on to economic statistics. At some point, he would have hit something Cruz didn't know, and we would have gotten some version of the clip we got. Generating the "Ted Cruz is so stupid, he doesn't know anything about Iran, what a fuckhead" clip was the point of the interview. It's total bush-league bullshit and unworthy of anyone who wants to be taken seriously.
