Christian theology thread for Christians - Deus homo factus est naturam erante, mundus renovatus est a Christo regnante

What is everyone's opinion on Redeemed Zoomer?
He's ecumenist and spends a lot of time talking about liking the Novus Ordo which leads to a lot of people claiming he'll eventually be Roman Catholic. He has said if you can lose your salvation then he isn't saved which that sort of emotional thinking probably heavily impacts how he forms his views.

He drops a lot of cold takes pretending they're hot takes online, like "I'm edgy cause I think if you reject the Trinity you're not Christian." :smug:

His advice on church membership taken to it's logical conclusion is going to endanger souls since he said even if a church denies the Resurrection and affirms Atheism you should still go there and let children be raised in that environment. He recently in a debate said he'd rather die than let a gay person take communion, but he's okay with his tithe cash going to LGBT propaganda and funding progressive lawfare.

I don't know this person but assuming what you say is true than I find that unfortunate, as Paul said: "And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith". -1st Corinthians 15:4.

The entire foundation of the Christian Religion is the historicity of resurrection of Christ. I know you have some people who've tried to call themselves a Christian while denying this fundamental truth (Marcus Borg for example) but really when you remove the Resurrection really what else is left? It's the base of the house of cards, remove it and there's no point to keep pretending you believe anything. But unfortunately you do see this phenomena of "Cultural Christianity" in some places like Northern Europe. For example in the Netherlands only 27% of self identified Dutch Catholics are theists, and only 13% believe in Heaven. At that point I don't understand why you'd keep the charade up and continue to call yourself a Christian.

I'd much rather talk to an open Atheist than a closeted one.

Without getting into specifics of that extreme scenario it is important for Christians to take communion (and who they commune with) seriously. After all Paul links improper communion habits with physical illness and even death (1st Corinthians 11:28-31)

His discussion with Gavin Ortlund and his debate with Matthew Everhard might be good starting places if you want to understand him more, basically his whole movement is focused on the idea that it's never okay to voluntarily leave a church no matter how degenerate/leftist/heretical ect ect it gets cause leaving would be "cowardice" it's better to be in the gorgeous church with the atheist progressive woman pastor so you can gamble on eventually controlling that pretty building rather than taking shelter somewhere primitive like holding church in a field in the woods with people who hold to the Apostolic Faith.

As for Communion, my point in mentioning it was to highlight it is strange Redeemed Zoomer claims to hold a conservative view on fencing the table but he is much more liberal in other significant parts of his theology.

He really is Catholic.

Bruh, that's weak sauce. Allow me to introduce Saint Simeon Stylites the Elder, (c. 390–459 AD), a hardcore Syrian ascetic who lived on top of a 50ft pillar near Aleppo for 37 years. He practiced extreme asceticism, including repeated prostrations, as part of his devotion to prayer and penance.
Late and gay, but harmony did a great video on him:

Which brings me back to a point: what exactly do people get out of RZ videos that they couldn't get out of other YouTubers? If it's the neutrality, Matt Whitman had his series visiting other churches. If I wanted to learn about a certain aspect of a denomination, I'd look up "does x do/believe in y" and comb through the results. Even if it was for comedy, LutheranSatire does better Prot comedy.

Day 184 - God will love you, of course, even though you do not love Him, but remember, if you give Him only half of your heart, He can make you only 50% happy.

His videos that explain denominational differences with ms paint are easily digestible and entertaining to watch. Most christian theological content on youtube is someone mugging at a camera while rambling for several hours, so the niche he found has been pretty successful. As others have noted the issur arises when he tries to explain something extremely complicated in the span of 8 minutes, still with snappy editing and jokes. Genuinely i think a lot of his flaws can be chalked up to the folly of youth and a long term case of convert's zeal.

Is RZ the Neil deGrasse Tyson of Christianity?

What is everyone's opinion on Redeemed Zoomer? Personally, I think he has some good intentions and qualities. My main gripe is that he sometimes misinterprets the positions of other faiths, most notably Catholics. His most recent video claimed Vatican 2 is infallible and that the Orthodox Church states that Islam worships a different god to Christianity. However when looking at the writings about the topic, he is quite wrong since Vatican 2 was pastoral and hadn't declared any new dogmas while many Orthodox Patriarch state the Catholic position that while Muslims do indeed worship the God of Abraham, they do not worship the same description of Him. Apparently the video was started with Jay Dyer arguing with a bunch of Catholics about this but I have yet to confirm or deny this allegation.
RZ: Is One of the most annoying faggots in the online Christian sphere

But he does give positions their due, which I can understand

Day 185 - You have freedom only to give [your heart] away. To whom do you give yours? You give it either to the moods, to the hour, to your egotism, to creatures, or to God.

That's very insightful wisdom. As much time as we spend stressing about others (which don't get me wrong we should care about our fellow man) at the end of the day the only person whose actions we have complete control over is ourselves. There comes a point where, when people refused to heed the advice we give, we must step back and remember, 'they're making their bed, while you can try to steer them away you can't force them in another direction'.

Hahahahhaha probably the best comparison ive heard,
-good at summarizing for normies
-can engage in some lolcow adjacent activities
-can have an ego problem
-both black
seems accurate to me
He seems to be your average jewish midwit. He can't actually understand concepts beyond slogans(e.g: Orthodox dyophysitism vs oriental miaphysitism).
What he said in his Jimbob debate was too absurd for him to ever try debating an EO again, sadly. He basically called Adam a spiritually modified Neanderthal.

With that said, I have to give him props for honesty. Normally these people will just lie and employ taqiyya in their protestant dawah.

Part of Redeemed Zoomer's appeal is that he panders a lot to ecumenism, despite all his efforts to emphasize the split between the original Protestant Reformers and their offshoots, he's never mentioned that it's normal in Protestant history to believe Churches that reject Sola Fide send people to hell. He makes a lot of content focused on the approach where it's like sitting across from someone having a mostly surface level convo with a bible rather than digging deeper into nuance rather than channels that take a more academic approach like Truth Unto Godliness or Anglican Aesthetics.

He'll get heated sometimes and make some angry posts on Twitter or Discord about Non-Denoms, Baptists or Eastern Orthodoxy but then apologize quickly and delete some stuff. The big example being him claiming about a year ago he was done with Protestant apologetics because he felt he wasn't getting enough help and feeling like he was the only trying to push back against non-Protestant Christians. Supposedly a lot of people on his Reconquista server converted to Eastern Orthodoxy through conversations on his server, (A internet-based conversion should be treated as sus until someone proves they've invested something IRL.)

It definitely begs the question of "How many times can someone shit on a group then apologize before it's clear their true feeling is negative and apologies lose their value?" Whether it is groups outside Presbyterianism that RZ dislikes or people from Presbyterian groups that disagree with the PCUSA or Reconquista movement.

There was a (conservative) lutheran commentator, can't remember his name, who more or less made the same point against RZ.

RZ's reconquista strategy is a young-adult fiction. Once you have kids, ensuring that they internalize right religion becomes more important than trying to subvert some dying sect of liberal protestantism.

There's a strange irony to RZ wanting to take back the mainstream churches. Within the description of many of his videos, there's a link to a map showing many more traditional Protestant churches. Here's the link if y'all are interested.

lol what? What sort of insane logic is this?
So if we were in the Fourth century and his church decided to embrace Arianism (something based off the cold takes you mentioned earlier I assume he must disagree with), he’d advocate staying with that church rather than leaving their heretical asses? Or does he draw the line somewhere?

If that really reflects his logic, that’s very stupid. And contradicts the example of pretty much all the church fathers I can think of.

Redeemed Zoomer frequently twists and butchers the Arian controversy because he thinks his position is the Athanasian one, thinking that the correct position is to keep attending the heretical church until they either excommunicate you or attempt to kill you. Prominent youtube pastors like Gavin Ortlund and Matthew Everhard have tried to point out to him that Athanasius actually fled the churches because of their heresies to instead worship correctly in the wilderness or in whatever houses people could spare. A modern equivalent some people have used is saying It's better to worship in sewers with the Orthodox than in beautiful heretical churches.

According to Redeemed Zoomer, you're still a Christian if you choose to flee the Arian Drag Queen Story Hour church to raise your kids in a more sane conservative church, but you're a coward and should feel guilty about it.
