Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

I said this before but girl gamers that NEED to publicly express that they are female are annoying off the rips. Adding girl or miss to their screen name creates a distraction as they knowingly want to be displayed out there, then complain that they’re harassed.
I was actually talking about flesh and blood women there, to be perfectly clear.

but I can think of no reason not to pirate woke slop. You should have a guilty conscience supporting that, if anything.
Why would you pirate it if you do not even want to buy or play it? At the end of the day, you're taking time off your day to obtain it.

The movie studios get pretty much all the money from tickets, so the theater makes all its money from snacks (used to be arcades, too).
Even if i was caught bringing candy into a theater, i still wouldn’t buy their overpriced candy. And i understand why it’s so expensive. I just don’t want to pay $5 for a box of M&Ms.

Resident Evil 9 is slop and only popular because it has the name Resident Evil. The trailer was an annoying stuttering woman with PTSD talking to a black generic law enforcement type. The horror elements look generic and the trailer offers nothing to get excited for. If you had called it a new SAW game or Parasite eve it wouldn't have changed anything in the trailer. Who decided to send a woman with PTSD to follow up on her own mother's murder and thought this was a good story for a game? Reusing an old character's surname and retconning racoon city so you can reuse it's assets is lazy game making by Capcom. They are releasing more bad games than good lately and their insistent on cinematic stories are ruining their games. I am angry at how hyped people are for slop from a company going down the shitter.

Well, I think he clearly means that you should pirate IF you want to play the game. Pirating something only to keep it on your drive would be futile to the max.

Sure. But he was saying that he wouldn't BUY a woke game, but pirate it. So it seems like he WANTS to play it, but doesn't want to directly support the woke game or developer/publisher.

But a lot of people have trouble going back and playing old games from the 80s and early 90s without abusing save states, not because they're too difficult, but because they're fairly difficult while punishing you so much if you die, often forcing a full reset of the entire game if you lose all your lives.
Well, that does make them harder. And there is literally nothing wrong with the concept of "lives". A fair game like Ninja Gaiden or Castlevania would only bump you back a couple of minutes at most when you lost all your lives, and allow you to continue from the beginning of the current level. Only really cheap games like Super Mario Bros and Sonic the Hedgehog sent you all the way back to the beginning of the game for dying too many times.

So we aren't really disagreeing :really:
I don't know. I mean, if you don't want to buy a game for whatever reason but still want to play it... I guess that's up to you. With that, if a game is "woke" and you know it, why do you still want to play it if it goes against your belief? Morbid curiosity? Justified rage?

You think I'm winning some kind of victory by not paying an extra $3 for the candy as I watch a race-swapped, transgender version of the Punisher fight the patriarchy? That $3 represents 54 seconds of my life, versus the 7,200 seconds of my life I just devoted to being beaten over the head with libtard bullsh
You are in the top 1% earners on the planet if you're charging $200s an hour for consultation. Normal people can't pay 4 times the cost for everything and keep a positive bank account. The cost of a movie experience has to be worth not spending that money else where. How much better does $4 candy taste over $1 candy? Are you okay with seeing only 3 movies instead of 4 to eat that candy? What else can you buy to entertain you for $12s?

It's easy to say you're rich so you don't care about the cost of things. That doesn't make over paying for stuff make sense. It makes you detached from economics most people have to work with. We have budgets we have to make work and over paying on snacks means we have to cut something else. Over time a small cut becomes a big cut because we're paying twice the amount to view a movie we could be.

turns out they would still rather play the supposed woke games regardless of how they obtained it, which makes them gay and faggots

You could play it "ironically" for a an hour or two, just to confirm your suspicions and/or play it for real and skip all cutscenes and plot and focus on gameplay. I did the latter that with a few games, such as Horizon: Forbidden West. I don't care about plot in games like this (big budget, open world, long playthrough) and 99% of any woke elements are in cutscenes

Hmn
Reminds me of me playing the Saints Row reboot (pirated) in an attempt to make my own opinion, because I found all the youtube reviews hyperbolic
For instance, I strongly disagree with the accusations of bad graphics
But the gameplay was dogshit in spite of my true and honest effort to like it

I finished that game and I did skip all the cutscenes, so this is a good example of that kind of game. It's very forgettable. Open world design is getting very stale in general. Freedom of movement is nice, but there are games that do it much better, like Just Cause 2.

If you disagree with anything of what I said, then please give a true and honest answer to this question: Would you say that copying a dance move or memorizing a poem is "stealing" from the dancer or poet?
But it doesn't translate to game piracy. If somebody programs a clone of your game, then it'd be the equivalent of copying a dance move. Pirating is the equivalent of making a copy of the dancer who performs the dance for free.

The reason why Robot Chicken gets away with using other people's IPs is, aside from it being a parody show, that they make their own stop motion original animations. If they just took the footage and ad-libbed their lines, they'd be in the same league as abridged series producers like Team Four Star who can't monetize DBZA without getting legally annihilated by Toei.

99.999% of people who pirate don't even bother to fire up OllyDBG to crack the copy protection system themselves.

My main issue with the game qua game (as opposed to cutscene delivery mechanism) is that the mechanics are completely and utterly bland
Shooting guns, for instance
For a game in which suuuuuuch a big share of playing the game is shooting guns, you'd think the devs would put some effort into making compelling shooting mechanics and combat scenarios
Like, I really appreciated the fact that the difficulty could be customized to the extent that it was - there were so many sliders that I was able to customize
I took an issue with enemies being bullet sponges, so I had the opportunity to use a slider to customize enemy health to improve my gameplay experience

... until I realized that those motherfuckers just outsourced the game design responsibility to me as the player
It's the game developer's job to balance the game, it shouldn't be MY JOB to make YOUR GAME compelling

Driving is also a huge part of the game (unless you're a fast travel fag), and while I enjoyed the car customization, driving itself is also mechanically... primitive

Appreciate the reply. I think it misses an important distinction, however
"Making a copy of the dancer" is not what is happening. A better comparison would be that pirating is like making a perfect copy of a video of the dancer. Not the dancer themselves. Not even their original performance. Just a copy of the file that represents it.
The distinction is important because digital files are not physical performers, they are instruction sets (code, data, patterns). These things can be duplicated without loss. No performance is taken, no access it revoked, nothing is displaced. That's why it's no theft - because there is no conflict over a scarce resource.

The Robot Chicken argument shows how they navigate copyright law, but that's a legal strategy, not an ethical argument. The fact that one can get sued for parody does not prove that parody is unethical. It's just an indictment of how copyright law is written. Same goes for Team Four Star. What... Toei? does to them is not evidence that Team Four Star did something wrong, it's evidence that copyright law is enforced using coercion. And the point I am making is that this enforcement often protects claims that are not grounded in actual property rights.

99.999% of people who pirate don't even bother to fire up OllyDBG to crack the copy protection system themselves.
True, but it doesn't change the ethical question. Whether you crack the DRM yourself or download something that's been cracked by someone else, the act remains the same: instantiating a pattern on your own hardware without depriving anyone else of access, control, or use of any physical thing. If nobody loses anything they had, and nobody obstructs anyone's ability to act, then no property is violated. And without any property violation taking place, the concept of theft cannot possibly apply.

Adding game mechanics to games where they don't fit is not variety, they're pace killers. Example: don't add stealth in games where the game doesn't adjust to stealth.

Not really. I just got my garage door fixed. For 1 hour of work, I was charged $200 for labor. The auto mechanic down the street charges $150/hr for labor. Top 1% labor is more like $500-$600 an hour. The really top-shelf lawyers charge over $1000 an hour.

An hour of professional labor should go from $100-$300. $30-$50 is cleaning ladies and waiters. Less than that is a kid cutting my grass.

Living out in the world will teach you the true value of a man's time real fast.

Then cut. That $900 GPU or that $150 box of 40k figures wipe out enough of your budget that you can't afford a $4 box of candy at the movies? Then don't buy it. You won't starve.

You're also not "overpaying." A movie theater isn't a grocery store. You pay more at the theater because it costs a lot more to operate a movie theater than a grocery store. It's the same principle behind why a beer that costs $1 at the grocery store is $4 at a bar, or a bottle of wine that costs $15 at the grocery store costs $50 at a restaurant. If you want to pay grocery store prices, sure, fine, but you get the grocery store experience.
