I dunno what your deal is, y'all are the ones with the autistic special interest in this artist and keeping a three-year old thread fixating on them afloat. I even agree with some of the shit in here, such as the dislike for pitchforking that one crewniverse dude for Pearl liking pi(e). I don't even like all of the aspects of how glip has chosen to make art now. But when you say some dumb shit about what an improvement some dogshit edits are, like ???

I liked glip's older work too, but degeneration as a term doesn't really apply. They are 100% capable of producing content like they used to, and they choose not to. Art is like riding a bike; your skills don't just fuck off because you do different stuff.
As someone who does do commercial art I have to say that's a load of shit. Tons of artists reach a "comfort zone" and don't feel the need to improve or do anything else. Like her shading and backgrounds right now are shoddy compared to her old work.

I really wish this thread wasn't so easy to shit up. Can't wait until you get threadbanned.

that's like a black belt saying I can break a board, but then they break a paper in half instead, yes pk can draw just like she used to, the problem is that she chooses quantity over quality, and that doesn't just show in her art but her other work as well

If you want my opinion (you don't, but I'm going to share it anyway) the art style is the least of Floraverse's problems; it's that awful pacing. Stop cramming so many words into single panels; this current page that's being picked and prodded at is a great example of one that needs to be sliced into something like 3 pages in order to be more effective.

They're doing themself a disservice if they want emphasis on subtle expression and stuff like that. It's way easier to accomplish when there's fewer words on a page. It's a comic, not a novel. Use the visuals to your advantage. There's almost more words than art on that page, like damn.

I'd be interested in seeing what sort of art you produce, if it weren't for powerleveling. That said, I don't disagree that their backgrounds and shading are lacking to nonexistant. That doesn't mean they aren't capable of it, it means they doesn't give a shit about it in comparison to producing content quickly.

I'm not gonna say it isn't a problem, because to some people it's a deterrent for reading Floraverse. But it isn't one to glip, and at the end of the day it doesn't make a lot of sense to piss and moan because they aren't tailoring their content to me.

I welcome all opinions, autistic or otherwise. I agree with you on pacing and the ratio of art to words in many panels. That reminds me of someone's criticism of how many of glip's comic panels are basically talking heads, which I also agree with. Their comic structuring could definitely use work.

It's not so much that I think subtler expressions are the way to go (after all, Lackadaisy is probably the best comic being produced right now in my opinion) but the edits to the expressions are very juvenile and don't add anything.

It's been mentioned many times in this thread that her laziness combined with an unwillingness to learn from mistakes is the primary issue.

But also you seem incredibly triggered by some 14 year olds quick head edits when her comics have terrible writing issues, panel design issues, and loaded with offensive pandering, all independent of the art.

At least two of those things were mentioned in my previous post, along with "I agree with those points."
And? All of these things make for a poor comic, but you've been doing nothing but sperging about how we should just let PK do their thing, acting like it would be perfect if only we let the janky art go.

Disregarding the fact that a poor comic isn't a lolcow thread make. Nobody here would give two shits if she wasn't such a historically awful person in general who, more specifically, treats people horribly who offer even the tiniest shred of criticism towards her comic (or herself).

I mean, I am primarily sperging about garbo criticisms of the visual aspect. I don't care about the bitching in general, but at least make sense.

I don't know them personally, so I don't have a lot of input on them as a person. Everything I see is he-said-she-said (from both critics and glip themself) so...shrug.

The talking heads thing gets on my nerves too, yeah.

I don't really think more subtlety will really do much either, I just remember Glip at some point stating that they were after subtleties in their expressions or something like that. Which, subtleties and emphasis on looks and things is better obtained when there aren't walls of dialogue there to compete. This is something I saw them mention themself (something they apparently think they already accomplish, which no) so that's what my statement was based on.

Lackadaisy is fantastic. I've not had time to sit down and give it the attention it deserves, but it's on my list of "comics to read".

Honestly, it seems kinda like you agree with a lot of what we say so I'm a little bit confused at the hostility? Especially since it was directed at a kid. I'm not big on their edits either and actually agree with many of your points, but it was pretty okay for a 14 year old.

Feel free to traverse the thread. Not necessarily reading all the posts, but that sources are provided when kiwis bring up information so you may form your own opinion before stepping in and making an ass out of yourself.

I agree with attempts at objective criticism. I disagree with the people that act like glip owes it to anybody to tailor their work to them, and I disagree with people who don't actually seem to know what they're talking about yet try to give critique. There was some thread here I can't remember that had folks posting redraws of Floraverse. Not edits, but redraws. And tbh they were complete dogshit, and it blew my mind that hatred for glip seemed to override common sense and, like, having monitors turned on or something, and people were circlejerking about how juvenile doodles were objectively better than what glip produces????

also @ kid: I am kinda salty about kids tbh, not wholly interested in a minor on a specifically adult-oriented forum. I did the same thing when I was their age so call me a hypocrite, but w/e. Also grinds my gears that a kid half glip's age, and others, think that kid has more artistic skill than glip. Not that child prodigies and adult travesties don't exist, but c'mon.

I have. It's all he-said-she-said. If I was personally witness to it, or if there was solid evidence, then I'd say okay. But it's just personal testimonials and chat logs that can easily be fabricated, so. I don't have a strong opinion either way.

Lol yes it does. "Riding a bike" is pretty much the ONLY skill a human being cannot forget how to do. Since she's been doing half-assed flat art for so long now, I'd bet she'd have to work pretty hard and give it several good tries to get back to where she used to be. Sure, she could eventually get there again, but it wouldn't be like "LOOK ITS LIKE I NEVER FORGOT AT ALL"

Also, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Art is subjective. .....etc......etc........etc.

It's especially disappointing for someone like PK because she used to make such damn impressive stuff and now she just doesn't so she can crank out lazy doodles instead.

I don't know what to tell you other than that's not how art skill works. Source: am artist.

The subjectivity of art has nothing to do with skill retention.

Glip wants to tell stories quickly more than render exquisite wall-worthy pieces. Their style fits their goal, but I am with you insofar as missing the more detailed projects.

I'm pretty sure every single contributor to this thread is an artist, sweet cheeks. I can tell you from personal experience that not drawing for over a year can lapse your skills. You don't start over from square one, sure, but you don't pick it up and immediately create another masterpiece again.

I never said it did. You keep claiming everyone's edits are shit and PK's art is god's gift to humanity. I'm saying art is subjective. It's an opinion. Some people like the expressions and the designs of the edits more than the stuff PK does. You can't tell them they're wrong because it's a subjective opinion. It's liking a design vs not liking a design. But somethings, like drawing fucking cat-like animals with broken-ass legs are NOT subjective and are just plain bad and lazy.

PK has also failed at telling "quick stories" then. Because she keeps dropping stories half-way through to re-do other projects, or make a game, or just do another comic because she's obsessed with new characters. She doesn't know how to write and when her drawing has become shittier to go with the lacking writing it is all around painful.

How is that not how it works? It's not the "subjectivity of art", it's techniques and entire principles of composition she straight-up doesn't use anymore, and hasn't for some time. She doesn't use complex lighting; she doesn't draw detailed backgrounds; she doesn't draw highly polished forms; she rarely draws fluid action poses; she barely even uses most of the color wheel a good chunk of the time. If you don't use these skills, you will forget them.

Pk sends out unfinished and sloppy sketches as "updates" so it's obvious she doesn't give a shit.
Also, I agree that skill lapses happen. I've gone for months without drawing and had a bit of trouble getting back to where I was before I stopped. Artists can get rusty after a while! You can't just simply pick up a pencil and suddenly be right where you were. It takes a little time.
PK can do art pretty well. At least she used to be able to. Now she's churning out sloppy sketches as commissions! People give her money and she still doesn't put the work in. That's unacceptable. She can shit out pages for her comic all she wants but she should at least put more effort in her commissions.

What kind of house is this where they keep a bottle of steak sauce on a scratching post. It might seem quirky but it's actually kinda gross.
