General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

At this point it has to be Phase. She even hinted at it in the post she made.
I think a lot of people are still stuck in the mindset of Phase being a "small" corpo. The operations that are "larger" and "more prestigious" than Phase are all publicly held. We have the disclosures and filings from Cover and the Anycolor, we know financially generally what is going on art both. Phase being privately held turns it into a black box, and the fishman, wisely, seems comfortable staying in that state and using it to his competitive advantage.

Is Phase more profitable than Niji? On a per talent basis? Could be, but for sure the fish doesn't have all of the costs associated with the talent churn going on at his "larger" competitors. Staying private means that he can make long term plans and investments without having to worry about whether the line went up this quarter or not, and it looks like he is aware of the advantage that represents.

I think you're misunderstanding what it even means when people refer to phase as a small corpo. In general they aren't talking about some obtuse figure like their profit margin or bottom line. It's because Phase just doesn't have the general influence, reach, or weight to throw around that "big corpos" do. Phase still feels like "a group of indies hanging out, just in a company" and not like someone you might end up seeing on TV randomly.

Which isn't to say that's a bad thing, it's just different, and that difference also plays a role in what sorts of talents I'd say you can reasonably expect to try and join there. Big fish aren't going to seek out the small pond.

I hope Phase remains a private company.

They don't understand what the anime-themed tea company says on Twitter, yet they all go "nigga Heil Hitler".
