Less lethal can still kill or maim at close distances, while nonlethal is considered to have a much lower risk of bodily harm than less lethal. But in reality there's nothing really "non lethal" because you can pretty much find a way to kill somebody with anything

THEY USED to use the american 180 for riots, carrying between 165 and 275 rounds of 22lr. Generally less lethal than other rounds but enough you HAD to stop and get medical care or you'd probably die. OR it was just harder to shrug off than gas or rubber bullets
