That's interesting. We lived in several rental homes growing up and the responsibility always fell to us to manage the yard, upkeep the interior, change the light bulbs, things like that. Major maintenance of the place (ensuring that it had working appliances, functioning heater and AC, that the roof wasn't caving in) was the landlords responsibility. My parents would have loved if if the landlord did mow the yard, though, and that's a really good landlord/client relationship.

Part of me wants to be surprised that Barb would already be rebuilding her hoard, but really I'm not. I can't be. I'm all too familiar with hoarders, and they do that kind of shit the minute you turn your back on them. Nonetheless, the amount of garbage she's managed to accumulate in such a relatively short amount of time IS nothing short of astounding. I shudder to think what the inside of the house looks like.
As an earlier poster pointed out, the windows seem to be covered with blankets. That goes back to something I've said earlier on these forums; hoarders get extremely paranoid and possessive of their hoards. As if people would actually want to steal that crap. As if people would actually want to touch that crap in the first place. Remember when Barb claimed that the firefighters were stealing her burnt, cat piss soaked garbage? I think this is a continuation of that same behaviour.
I can only hope that their landlord, or whoever actually owns the property, keeps things from keeping too bad.

Could be both, honestly. We already know Barb is a hoarder, and going by what OPL has said, she feels people want to steal from her hoard. Why, I don't know. But if she was thinking rationally, she wouldn't be a hoarder in the first place. Hell, if the Chandlers though rationally, Chris wouldn't be the person he is today.

I'm not so sure. I think it's more possible she was just claiming theft of her items as a cheap ploy to get more money.

The rental house has three bedrooms, and is only 200 square feet larger than 14 BC. It's not really that large, but it's plenty for two people to live in.

When I was single and a slobby bachelor, I didn't hang curtains. I just figured, "eh, I live in a shitty room, anyway," and I literally just tacked an Army poncho liner over my window. At the time, I thought it was funny--but in retrospect, I'm embarrassed.
But when I moved and I got into a much nicer place, I looked at myself and said, "curtains. So I feel like a real human being and a grown-up." And I went out and bought fucking curtains.
Curtains are something small, but it's something that makes a house fall into a sense of normality. When we see a house with curtains, we think everything's normal. When we see a house with bedsheets tacked up and an eerie red light and a giant flood light beaming down on people, we all know subconsciously that something isn't right.
If the Chanders want to blend in with their new surroundings, they're doing it the wrong way. But normality takes work, dammit, and it seems that's not a priority.
