I've seen this with my own eyes, unfortunately. Patient Zero was from the background you would expect- shitty weak-willed parents who let her get away with anything. However her parents still dragged her to church for a few months before she graduated and finished the poonout, and while there she was able to get in the ear of a very sheltered girl. That sheltered girl- whose family was wholesome and normal- then passed the contagion around to a couple of other girls in the youth group. This culminated with multiple kids having very scripted and formulaic "trans mental health crises" and the youngest and most suggestible of them actually making a serious attempt at suicide. Patient Zero had also passed along the "wisdom" that if you "discover" you are trans you must transition or else neck. It's part of the package.
You hate to say "culture-bound syndrome" but it sure quacks like a duck. "Formulaic" is a good call; it's the same beats you see in every trans article/puff piece aimed at normies, so that's how the kids know how to behave.

Jagex had the wise idea of not repeating a fag event since the shitshow in 2017 (scarf), but they changed their minds in 2022 (flower crown, 2023 was the jumper) and beyond. Why? I'd have a gander at whether osrs has achieved a critical mass of faggots/men in dresses compared to other players, which wouldn't be that surprising, considering the link between autism and trooning out. I have a very cloudy recollection about there being an update to runescape that included some cosmetic items, I dont play it, showed up on my feed.
