You have to remember that for decades, the Republicans were largely meant to be controlled opposition; it was how they formed the uniparty.

Only in the last few years have things deteriorated. When Obama ascended to the presidency, the Dems got way too high on their own bullshit. There are still a lot of holdovers from the GOP of old that want to return to business as usual, ignoring that many of the Dems have just completely lost their minds in their pursuit of eternal power.

Cleansing the party of these greedy defeatists will be Trump's biggest domestic challenge, since this will involve open hostility to some in Congress and outright approving of primary challengers to force some of them out in place of genuine MAGA Republicans.
