The video is kind of interesting even if overtly long, not particularly for the stories themselves but for understanding the setup of DarkId's little cult.
And I finished it after a few days. I even managed to get the document some former TheDarkId Discord creep managed to write before TDI nuked the entirety of the server. Honestly, it paints a picture that's even
more insane than the mere "pathological liar" thing he had going. This man was borderline Chris-Chan tier, only apparently functional and a predator instead of prey.
This man started to build his fake persona in
2004, writing guides on Gamefaq where he thanked his non-existent wife "Fiona", his theoretical girlfriend "Claire" and his best friend "Elly", all returning characters in his
twenty years old internet facade. All names from video-games. The amount of schizo ramblings is insane (apparently Fiona was the grand-daughter of Himmler of all things!) but the details are beyond the point, this went on for
decades of Internet life, even before his Something Awful threads. This must have consumed a significant amount of effort and time, without going on the fake Japanese adopted daughter/girlfriend.
Then, he hunted. Apparently he actively searched for people with issues (the guy talking with slowbeef is a complete basket case of psych drugs, therapy and self-diagnosed Internet sexual preferences) and played the role of Progressive War Dad with the support of his Japanese fake daughtergirlfriend. He wasn't even good at it, and I do not doubt that there was a good number of his acquaintances that didn't care for the larp, but he seemingly targeted and manipulated mentally-fragile nerds in some kind of Discord cult. Start doubting the Chief? You get branded as a
Russian Nazi Kiwifarmer Molester and the other socially maladjusted nerds need to shun you. Probably standard Discord clique stuff, but at the service of a pathological liar that was pardoned everything because he was One Of the Good Ones. I'm amazed that there are people so desperate for recognition that they fall prey of some random schizo toying with them for
years just because he's Defending The Right Causes and tells them every enemy is a hidden Nazi.
And this wasn't even for financial support (despite the still-active Patreon) it was simply to lord over the plebs. Did he believe some part of his insane ramblings? Did he need validation for his fake persona? Whoever this Ryan Kelly (apparently his real name) was, his psyche must have been fascinating to rummage around.
He wasn't even good at his lies, with most of his photos and videos clearly recycled. But no one with enough wits
cared to check, and those that cared were emotionally dependent or scared by cult-thinking.
