In related stupidity, always using a shot to the shoulder as a way of showing someone got injured but then acting like they're going to be operating at 100% like Duke Nukem or something with 1 hp. For one thing, there are three major arteries in that area. If something hits the brachial you'll bleed out in a matter of seconds. Even the other two, you'll bleed out pretty quickly. On a related note, the idea in films that anyone, no matter how strong, can twist and snap someone else's neck stealthily, with about as much difficulty as opening a bottle of coke.
So you have seconds to a minute or two before you're dead if you don't stop immediately and do something.
Second, it's an incredibly painful place to be hit. You're not going to be in any shape to do anything unless you're a roided out hippo on a heroic dose of PCP to the point you're a human pit bull.
And maybe you're a superhuman supersoldier and can return fire or something but you're not going to be crawling through air ducts for hours taking out dozens of bad guys, swinging from the trees like Tarzan, or all the other bullshit they have people shot in the shoulder do.
