If you think the welfare system in the US is poorly set up, you should see Europe. At least in America, EITC in contingent on work, and EBT has at least some restrictions. We would not survive, given our demographics, a European welfare system, where in Germany they provide lump sums for years and years while not working and parties had to fight to make welfare in a card instead of cash (so that they at least buy things that are legal and not drugs or prostitutes).

Might be optimistic of me but I don't think any options are out the window. America's too important to a lot of Europe for anything but bluster to any of America's demands, and I don't think Trump/America ought to care about the whinging of Leftist European politicians who are just saying what they're saying to appeal to their base. There's going to be arguments but things are going to remain cordial because it's not like any aggressive actions have been taken. It's just general politicking.
