the problem with communism is the uniforms look cool but not as cool as the uniforms of fascists, and the look only works in pictures and video because in person communists always smell really really bad. case in point: che guevara looked cool but by all accounts smelled like a new jersey garbage dump in august

The worst part is, he actually looks somewhat normal compared to where he is now. Yeah I know he's always been a goober but still.

Karl Marx's criticisms of capitalism are largely correct but in practice communism doesn't work because utopia will never be a thing.

Communists used all their brain power correctly identifying the problems of capitalism, so they ended up going full retard on the solutions.

It's pretty easy to identify and point out the issues in something, it's a completely different beast to fix those problems and make something better. It's why so many YouTube reviewers/critics produce absolute sewage when they try to make their own movies/games/comics.

What I'm trying to say is that communism is Marx's Kickassia.

Look, someday the human race will be ready for Communism. And on that glorious day we'll put down the filthy commies once and for all.

I do not understand how a 19th century ideology that has failed again and again continues to live on. It seems that things that refuse to die and things that refuse to change will forever plague human past a certain point in history. From what i've seem, only two types of people support any kind of marxism: people who are too poor and just want a way out of their misery and those privileged upper-middle class college people who naively believe in utopianism.

It is based on greed, envy and stupidity. As long greedy, envious and stupid people will be around, it will exist in some form.

You could go deeper how its about an "external locus of control" or "lack of self-esteem and self-efficacy" or "unsuitable and unproductive mental models of the world" but I'd categorize all those under the all inclusive LOSER. Some people are just losers and want to take from the winners of society. The lazy kid who refuses to study will always resent the diligence of the good student, the lard elemental will always resent the self-discipline of the fit and healthy guy.

Think about it from a religious perspective, Lucifer was the angel of music. Communist music kicks ass. They have to make it look cool to deceive you.

It's a difficult question. There were some good things but they didn't exist everywhere - rapid economic and social development, expansion of education and healthcare, low income inequality, more opportunities for the working class and women, generous vacation time and subsidized holidays, job security and lack of economic pressures.

But none of those are necessarily unique to Communism, rather they are often relicts of the social-democratic and democratic-socialist movements Communist parties separated from during the early 1900s. It is still a variant of socialism even if it has a very different end goal.

Some countries did a lot better than others. The GDR, Hungary and Baltic SSRs had a very different outcome vs. China, the Central Asian SSRs or Romania. Of course the better you did, the more likely you were to find yourself in trouble because the USSR did not want any competition from its "brother states".

Overall too many mistakes were made, too many things were accomplished through coercion and violence, and too many opportunities for reform were crushed through military force to keep the confidence of the people or address its fundamental issues. Its time is past, even if I look back at many things with sympathy.
