I've seen some interviews with Trump put out recently that covers it and he states along the lines of 'Both sides have very strong opinions on it, I stay out of it.' If he does pardon Snowden, it'll be towards the end of his term. Not least because he needs the support from the RINOs and neocons until then.

Imagine being the feds who were on that case. You're one of the good ones, actually doing something of note, then a few years later the guy you caught gets traded for a C-list athlete who took drugs into a nation hostile to it. I can imagine that would leave feelings of resentment

That's only partially true. You can learn enough to realize the abstract patterns within history and be able to quickly slot any group into a framework that works well enough for anything that isn't actual scholarship or very sensitive political decisions regarding said group. But this is the sort of history they don't want you to know. You will not find it in high school, and you're very lucky to find a college professor who can teach it to you. You can learn it in upper division history classes in college, but at that level you're getting some level of leftist indoctrination and you'll have to realize that what your professors are teaching you doesn't actually confirm the American progressive/Redditor worldview but is actually a tool that says far more than that, including many things your professor would be horrified to hear.
