A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.


But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

My point is that the scapegoat argument doesn't hold water. If the Trust invented a story about Letby being a murderer, in order to prevent them looking incompetent... they'd still look incompetent, because harbouring a murderer isn't any better.

It's not so much they invented her being a murderer, it's more that they got awarded a golden goose to pin all their gross incompetence on (The historically high deaths on our watch are all the fault of a rogue nurse being the second coming of Beverley Alitt, yes even the ones she was not physically present for). They just assumed that the fact she was a irredeemable child murderer would mean nobody would look closely at the flawed evidence used to convict her.

We had a perfect opportunity to side-step all of this angst by negotiating to join the European Economic Area and the EFTA. Access to the single market, without being bound inside the common customs border, or having to operate under the huge burden of the acquis, and with an independent voice on all of the international regulatory organisations that the EU is subordinate to (and at which member states cannot have an independent position). It would have taken thirty or forty years to fully untangle us from the EU, but taking that first step would have made the process inordinately easier.

So naturally, May's negotiating team conspired with the EU to hamstring the UK at the very first step, by imposing a two year deadline, a crash-out "no deal" position in the event of failure to reach an agreement, and the imposition of the northern ireland "back-stop" to create economic havoc within the UK even when an agreement was reached. It was a deliberate act by the political class, to punish the people of Great Britain for daring to seek a different path than their unaccountable technocracy and leave a path to bounce us back into membership once everyone got fed up of the situation they had created.

Make no mistake, they will try and force us to join again, but this time as a fully subservient member, without any of the claw-backs negotiated previously. The UK was the second largest net contributor to the EU budget, even with the rebate; our leaving hurt them financially in ways that are still shaking out, so they want us back for that reason alone.

The now convicted triple-killer was referred to Prevent three times between December 2019 and April 2021 due to his interest in terrorist attacks and school shootings.

Wondering why it failed?

The review said while officers at Prevent had shown a "high level of compliance" with policies in place at the time, it criticised the decision not to escalate Rudakubana's case to the next level in the process, known as Channel.

I have two questions:

1) What did/didn't Alex do to have his case escalated - what was the reason he wasn't deemed fit to pass on to Channel (Whatever the heck that is).

2) How many people are on Prevent's list that could be in the same situation as Alex's?

While there was no evidence of a fixed ideology or motivation, Rudakubana was obsessed with violence and his case should have been escalated as an example of what was then referred to as "mixed unclear and unstable ideology".

He had no ideology but should have been referred for unstable ideology. lol, lmao even.

I'm all too aware. In my little shire, the limited times I've dealt with the local GP, it's been very good. Same for my wife with the rare hospital referrals, requests for extra work, etc. All been good so far.
