He is most certainly lying. Just look at it this way:
- He first started getting closer to him as an orbiter: going to KoK, dropping by doing calls about internet drama which destiny engaged with before his vyvanse arc).
- He made an entire youtube essay glazing destiny.
- He also went on get-togethers with destiny, such as the donut cop gun range stuff.
- He went multiple times to destiny podcasts such as Anything Else.
So it was most certainly not a content only relationship. On that same note, it is now clear that the only reason he stopped glazing destiny was because of this whole Pxie thing, which is basically (kindly) confirmed by eat oreos. He is lying through his teeth.
