You ban porn and porn will move back into the underground and fuel a resurgence of organized crime and lead to all sorts of blowback in terms of rising rape cases and sex crimes.

Government and private success/fail rates vary on a wide range of services. It's often a crapshoot for which is better quite frankly.
 
On the topic of the matter while it is in discussion, while the Prohibition ultimately failed it probably didn't help that enforcement of the 18th Amendment struggled from the outset as states put much of the burden on the federal government, there was inadequate funding, lack of proper training, not enough agents to cover the United States and there was always the possibility of agents getting bribed. To get a general idea of the numbers here, for example in Chicago during the time of Al Capone he controlled 20,000 speakeasies and employed 1,000 hoodlums which was up against 300 Prohibition agents.

Thanks for expanding on this, as I'm currently working through the "Jefferson Bible" (I'm such a heretic, I know).

The introduction for my edition completely glossed over that fact when discussing the nuance of Jefferson's morals and religious views. They just summarized it as, "DNA confirmed Jefferson fucked his slave - what a hypocrite."

These are both good things. Going underground means it's harder to find and fewer people use it. Being more dangerous means there's a stronger deterrent against girls doing it, as opposed to how they can sign up for OnlyFans and have their butthole pics online in just ten minutes. I don't want porn to be something fun and cool that all a girl's friends are doing because it's, like, totally easy money. I want porn to be something that normal girls avoid, because it's associated with organized crime, drugs, and early death.

If laws don't make things harder to do, why are you so mad about them?

The weird thing about libertarian economic logic is you only selectively apply it. Libertarians will complain about government regulations on medicine, automobiles, dishwashers, or anything else you don't like because, by banning this or that, the government makes the good in question more expensive, more difficult to obtain, and out of reach for more people. And on the flip side, deregulation results in growth in whatever industry gets deregulated.

Yet, when it comes to porn, prostitution, and drugs, things that many libertarians are addicted to, regulations magically stop working! We are assured that government regulations do absolutely nothing whatsoever. They don't make things more expensive. They don't make things harder to get. Somehow, they only have this effect on dishwashers and cancer treatments. Government regulations on porn won't make porn more expensive or harder to get. They're a total waste of time (but you're also very angry about them).

Even more bizarrely, libertarians claim that regulations only affect craft beer. The Carter-era deregulation of the brewing industry, libertarians tell us, is what resulted in the explosion of the craft beer industry in the 80s and 90s. Yet, miraculously, when we talk about regulating heroin and weed, or even regulating alcohol in general, regulations stop working again! It's so weird!
